Description This is the first beta version of a poster featuring the two binary functions of the arithmetic of the natural numbers for arguments 0 through 10. The colors of each number & decoration are based on the remainders of that number when divided by 2 through 5, the font is decided by the remainder modulo 6, and the decoration's shape by modulo 7.

I've bumped it up to a beta version because I finally added the last feature I wanted to include: A short explanation of what the colors & decorations mean, on the poster itself. I think I've made the colors & fonts of the numbers about as clear as I can, so now I'm mostly looking for advice on how to make the explanation clearer. However, if you find a particular problem reading any of the numbers, don't hesitate to let me know; they look clear to me, but I'm not the intended audience.

The different fonts I used for the numbers can be found at Aenigma , a free font foundry.

To create the tables themselves, I used the FreeMarker Java Template Engine to create svg files . Once I created the tables, I did the final layout with the background, title, and footer using Inkscape . It took longer than it sounds, because I couldn't get Inkscape to handle fonts in linked svg documents properly; I had to change my FreeMarker templates to put everything in one file, rather than make the numbers their own files that could be embedded in the tables. Likewise, although I was able to get Google Fonts to work in svg files when I opened them in my web browser, I couldn't get it to work with Inkscape. Since I use Inkscape to rasterize the vector image so I can (possibly) send it to a printer, I'm pretty much stuck using fonts on my local system for now; that's why I didn't include the source .svg for download.
