I'm stuck in a place so dark I can hardly see
Torrents of black flowing down to swallow me
It's the daily life in this rotting city
A place completely devoid of love or pity

The thick clouds of smog seem to reduce all memories
To a maddening whisper of quiet melodies
In my mind, having no recollection of anything happening
That empty silence in my head is maddening

The only way to keep it together is with paper
The only way to retain my identity
Name, age, history, family, heredity
All the important details I can come back to later

But in this land of the pain, there can be no mercy
As I saunter down the street, papers in hand
A shadow steps out from the dust and dirt
Quietly walks forward, what does it want with me?

Overtaken by fear, can't run, I'm glued to the spot
It's eyes glow an eerie red
My fear heightens, I know what it's here to get
No! Why me?! It cannot! It must not!

The shadow reaches its arms toward me
Its embrace comforting and terrifying all at once
The darkness envelops me, can't see
As they slip away, gone.
