This was from much earlier this year, specifically February - I could have sworn this was no earlier than April! Oh well...
I wanted to try my hand at humanized/gijinka versions of Kaiju, and I decided I wanted to go ahead and do Mothra first. The first thing that came to mind was to give her an 'island' style look to her, kind of like the Shobijin and other inhabitants of Infant Island. In hindsight... she mostly reminds me of Kida from Atlantis: The Lost Empire, but with a warmer color pallet (I showed this to my friend, and he agreed). Oh well, I want to give the idea another try, maybe give her a modern look (mostly so I can match her with a biker-esque humanized Godzilla).
