Description

Half-Life 3 concept art: Bootstrap Device, part 2 out of 32.

The mysterious invention created by Aperture Science inside a icebreaker ship, Borealis. Chell learned about it first time in the Aperture Science Enrichment Center, from the ship's captain, explaining that it was a continuation of the 1943's Philadelphia Experiment, Navy's attempt to do radar invisible ships, which ended up teleporting the ship, almost killing the entire crew. Aperture Science took on the task to perfect the science behind the teleporting ship, hoping to beat Black Mesa in the race for government funding.

Everything changed when Combine attacked Earth. In their desperation, Aperture Scientists used the Bootstrap Device to jump away from the Combine clutches, never to be heard again. Until now. As the Combine forces were disconnected from their Overworld, they focused all their efforts to find the Borealis, because they could use it to re-establish contact with their homeworld. This prompts the Resistance to go after the ship, if they don't get to it first, all they fought for and died for, was for NOTHING.

But Combine soo realize that what the humans have created was actually a fully working QUANTUM ENGINE, prompting them to chase the Borealis with every force, in every universe, because if they can get their hands on this technology, they could conquer the entire Omniverse in matter of HOURS without superportals.
