Description This is the Body Armour I made for my NCR Ranger cosplay.
I built this to go with The NCR Ranger cosplay I made for Ayacon 2011. This took about 2 Days to build and paint.

Its made from EVA Foam, cut with a craft knife and detailed with a soldering iron to make all the scratches and dents.

Do you think one could use the same kind of knife one uses for styrofoam to cut EVA? I mean the craft knives that heat up and then you can cut the styrofoam far more easily?

Do you have any pepakura files of this to post?

JayCosplay In reply to ArcFlayer [2013-08-11 09:25:28 +0000 UTC]

This wasn't made using pepakura, this was just foam panels cut out and glued together.

Hey i've been getting the pieces for this armour for airsoft. I've found the brown duster online, the bullet belt, some camo pants, boots, and a steel helmet, (the helmet i will integrate with thermal vision and a radio.) All i need is the actual armour its self. If you could send me instructions and a supply list i would be grateful.

The "LAPD RIOT" font is PERFECT. Looks just like it, though I don't remember the fist being there. I'm guessing that's just something of your own design or choice to put on there. Looks really great, I like the "wear and tear" effect you put on it.

JayCosplay In reply to ShimShimmySham [2012-09-04 09:23:16 +0000 UTC]

Hehehe, thanks. No the fist is there, it's on the I game models and the promo artwork, it's just hard to see is all.

Why are you and Kommissar better at making this than me? also, can I get a few tips on painting the armour?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JayCosplay In reply to Xavkitsune [2012-03-14 12:06:40 +0000 UTC]

Acrylic paints to add details but I always spray and matte black coat on the foam before i start. It seals the foam a bit better and helps keep the rest of the paint layers on. Get some old sponges to help blend the paint if your looking to make it look dirty and worn. Some silver paint that you can use the dry brush technique to add scratches and the like if your looking for a more wore torn sort of look.

That's so cool. Is it durable enough to survive a larp?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JayCosplay In reply to soartsy [2012-02-03 11:09:43 +0000 UTC]

You can punch, hit, kick that armour and it will stay together fine. The foam it's made out of is really shock resistant so it's ideal.

soartsy In reply to JayCosplay [2012-02-03 11:14:58 +0000 UTC]

That's great! We mostly use metal to make armours for post-nuclear larps, but this one looks much, much better.

Zaradis [2012-01-16 23:54:35 +0000 UTC]

How difficult would you consider this? also how do you make the shoulder part curve and connect with the back part..that part just perplexes me lol

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JayCosplay In reply to Zaradis [2012-02-03 11:13:47 +0000 UTC]

This was the easiest part of the hole built. Once the shapes are cut its really a matter of sanding the edges and then adding the paint. Oh and I used a paint heater gun to head up the foam until it became a bit softer, bend it into position and wait about a min if that, the foam will cool and stay in that position.
