Description It’s been a long time since I’ve drawn anything, so I’m pretty rusty.

I rarely draw or write an OC as a main character, however, this is an OC character that has been plaguing me for several years. I decided to give her some attention so that I can have a bit of peace. I probably won’t ever write a Naruto fic with her. But if I do, I plan to wait until Kishimoto is finished writing the series. One of my rules as a writer is that I never write an OC as THE main character. They usually are side characters or one of several main characters, with the rest being canon characters. Too often, fanfic writers make the mistake of trying to create “the greatest” OC and think everyone will fall in love with that character. They then focus all of the attention of their story on that character and ignore and/or badly characterize the canon characters. I don’t know about you, but when I read a Naruto story, or a story in another fandom, I want to read about the original characters. That’s the reason I’ve been very hesitant to write anything with this character or even to post her character bio on deviantart. But…as I said, she’s been haunting me, as I suppose any fictional child of Mitarashi Anko and Maito Gai would.

Name: I’ve never really come up with a name for her. I’ve tended to call her “Maito Jubei” as a place holder name and as a reference to the main character of Ninja Scroll. My thought is that she eventually goes by a different name than the one that she was born with.

Possible real names: Mai, Hasu (lotus in Japanese), and Kakashi (named because Gai was going to name his firstborn after his Eternal Rival, regardless of the gender).

Nicknames: possibly the Jade Dragon or the Lotus Dragon. As a daughter of Anko (who is associated with snakes) and Gai (who is associated with tortoises and green beasts), it seems natural that their offspring would be associated with a dragon.

Family: Eldest child of Gai and Anko. She has one or two siblings, one who is later killed. Kakashi or Rock Lee is probably her godfather.

Personality: Powerful, intelligent, and charismatic, coupled with arrogance, an ego, and the “hot bloodedness” of both her parents equals a volatile combination. She has no compunctions about manipulating a situation to her advantage. Despite her upbringing and parentage, she has an aristocratic air. This often leads strangers to believe that she is from a powerful, noble clan. “Jubei” also struggles with her darker nature, which is inherited genetic heritage from Orochimaru.

Over time, her “hot bloodedness,” arrogance, and ego are tempered by age, experience, and hardship. She eventually learns humility the hard way. However, Jubei (at the point that the story may be written), has never completely been able to rid herself of her arrogance. The enormous energy that she inherited from her parents is always brimming just below the surface. Opponents and allies have often commented on her ability to turn any room upside down just with her presence. Jubei has taken her father’s “dynamic entrance” to a new level.

Background: I haven’t completely worked it out, but Jubei’s arrogance is her undoing for a time. It either leads to the death of someone she is close to, or is blamed for that death because of her personality and because she was in the wrong place at the wrong time. “Jubei” then becomes a missing nin for a time and is possibly believed to be dead.

During the years that she is missing, she faces incredible hardship and grows in her abilities as a fighter and a natural leader. Jubei finds herself eventually facing a choice that could her lead her down the road to becoming the Madara of her age, or turning back. Gai and Anko’s teachings stick just enough that Jubei begins walking the hard road to redemption. Having once rejected her father’s ideals, Jubei slowly begins to embrace them. She begins to see the “springtime of youth” in new light and now understands that she can renew herself, as the flowers do in the spring. Jubei begins to wear some green as a tribute to her father (though a much darker shade) and even is wearing a belt with a lotus design (again, a nod to her father.) Jubei possibly has the tattoos for “spring” and “youth” hidden on her body. In the drawing above, she is wearing green body armor, a trench coat, boots, and etc. Like her father, she is very practical when it comes to her clothing.

At some point, she discovers that Orochimaru had experimented on her mother, resulting in any offspring of Anko’s containing both her and Orochimaru’s DNA. When Jubei found out, she decided not to tell her parents or her siblings, believing that it would be too painful for them. Before her departure from Konoha, she and Gai more or less became estranged (despite Gai’s desperate attempts to help his daughter). Eventually, upon her return to Konoha many years later, the two of them reconcile.

Other misc.: Like both her parents, Jubei hates to be in hospitals. Like her mother (and sometimes father), Jubei will inevitably make an escape attempt. She does this out of principle (got to keep the medics on their toes) and out of ego (feeling a need to prove that she can outwit and out fight the Anbu and hospital personnel, even when half dead). Like Gai, drugs tend to make her a bit loopy and hallucinate. This, combined with her personality, often has disastrous consequences, resulting in both Tsunade and Sakura proclaiming Jubei “as their worst patient ever and a terror to medics everywhere.”

I loved his concept... looks like he'd be a nice match to my Akai Maito. Though Akai actually submits to medical treatment out of fear from his grandfather and his dual condition of son and "serf" to his father (not that Gai minds that much)

Is he seasick like Gai?
