Description
It seems to be a very deep rooted aspect of many if not most human societies to want to own what we admire, to capture that which captivates us. Admire the Fae for their fierce sense of freedom, capture them for it if you can. This Irony is not without obvious consequence. Often, as Artists, we ourselves are enslaved by the efforts to capture what we admire. This piece is a meta-reference meditating on reflecting that.___About________________________________________________________________
I’ve been friends with ~Izile on face book and DA for some time now.
She continues to create and post images of her wonderful “Magic Vials”,
which she also sells on her Etsy account .
She herself has a very Celtic Fae presence about her, which,
until recently I only witnessed through her posted photos.
Her “Magic Vials” are small parcels of her Herbology, Geomancy and Oil Works.
Each one having it’s own characteristics suited toward individual ends.
The craft and care she puts into her work inspired me to want to combine
her image with her work. As an artist myself I gained great personal
satisfaction from this. I hope you enjoy seeing it as much as she and I
enjoyed making it.

Glass and light refraction:
When compositing an object into or behind rounded glass, it’s important to keep in mind
what glass does to light and how that effects the object within. A helpful technique, is to
decide upon your end compositions lighting ahead of time so that you can take
appropriate reference images. Even if you’re not a photographer and thus not shooting
your own stock, a set of low quality reference images can be quite helpful. I this case, I
was shooting my own stock, so I was able to make the lighting setup that I used on my
model a larger version of the lighting setup that I used on the tiny “Magic Vials”.
However, I used a very even lighting scheme and still had to dodge and burn lighting and
shadow in post.
Example:
into a pose appropriate for the piece.
set to “Linear Dodge”
“Linear Dodge” and burned the areas where the highlights were too strong.
contained objects, I dodged and burned light refraction onto the model.
I also applied a very subtle fish-eye effect to the image of ~Izile not just with a filter,
but also by enlarging and warping her hands and feet as they are further from the
center of the glass.
own layer in front of everything. To which I also applied a slight inner and outer glow
further separating them from the inside of the vial as well as adding a hint of magic
to the image.
I hope this brief tip serves as helpful food for thought
as you continue your artistic journey.

That's awesome that you worked with Stephanie!! I used to work with her and I've always respected her so much. She's a wonderful girl and definitely the best elf I know.
And I really like this a lot too. It's awesome to see her inside one of her own vials
