Oh I wish this is how it had played out.Β It makes me sad that Sega ordered Archie to not put Sonic in any serious relationships.Β But now I just imagine that Sonic and Sally are just together in all the time we don't see on Sky Patrol.Β No one can prove it isn't happening.

Well Sega seems bound and determined to make Sonic as "Cool and Rad" as possible.Β Among their new orders are that Sonic cannot cry, he cannot have family (Uncle Chuck is safe because he is everyone's uncle), and if Sonic loses in any way something must happen quickly to give him a full recovery, so essentially Sonic is not allowed to lose in any serious or lasting way.Β I think these orders came from Sega of Japan HQ.Β I guess they don't get that in the rest of the world we like our heroes to be a little flawed and to have moments of real emotion or vulnerability.Β

I just don't understand. All the moments that are the most memorable for me (and a lot of other people) are moments of emotion, like Sonic and Tails making up after a long fight or Sonic crying over Sally supposedly dying. Taking that away just seems like the wrong direction to go. Β

I know what you mean.Β Back when I was a kid long before laptops and the internet was readily available I took some of my favorite Sonic comics with me when going to see relatives.Β I always took the ones with either lots of action or something between Sonic and Sally.Β The scene of them kissing in the redone Endgame issue was one I always had with me.Β
I think we just have to except that Japanese business execs just don't understand what American audiences like in comics.Β Then again their anime makes it hard to tell the difference between a couple showing affection and domestic violence.Β (looking at you Amy)

As much as the constructive criticism is at times necessary, its how you worded this paragraph that makes it sound like you have an inflated ego! My friend Jayfox worked very very hard on this pic and she really doesn't need this kind of bigotry!Β
My homework for you is: "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all! Just make a nice compliment and if she personally asks for critique, then word it in a way so it doesn't sound insulting!"

Well mister, I do have a tablet. I just got really lazy doing these short comic scene. I didn't feel like outlining and coloring them all on the Photoshop. Quick coloring jobs are just air brushes for me. I'm sorry if that bothers you. I will do a decent drawing of sonic and sal and their pals, but lately been so tired, helping out mom who been really sick, work, bah. You may be better at coloring then I do, but this is just fan art for fun, not for business.Β

THANK you! This element was totally missing from the comic (which I only received yesterday). And worst of all, Ian totally punted the emotional potential by dragging in Amy Rose and setting up an Archie-Betty-Veronica triangulation of the three. This does not bode well for the comic's new continuity.
It looks like that aspect of the relationship between the comic and the fandom hasn't really changed. When it comes to defying the comic's conformity, love is the ultimate revolutionary act.

Would you rather Sonic have ignored Amy entirely? I'm a SonSal fan myself, but there are many SonAmy fans out there, and I think that having Sonic at least acknowledge Amy's presence during their reunion is the least Archie could do to pay lip service to the shipping from the games, don't you think?

Sega, in fact, doesn't do very well having Amy Rose relate to Sonic anyway. She's either guy-hungry or, at the end of Sonic and the Black Knight, ready to hammer Sonic for being late for a date -- (SPOILER ALERT -- turns out the whole game is one long shaggy dog story of why Sonic was late). The fact that Sonic backed off of a full-blown romantic reunion with Sally says more IMO about the Archie house culture than anything else.
