Description
This is a subject I've wanted to tackle for some time and I've been visiting this piece on and of for a couple of weeks. Along with one or two others. I think that combat should appear fast, violent and aggressive with lots of movement and pace. Difficult to capture in a single frame convincingly without turning the whole thing into a messy blur. So I've kept this one under my hat until I was more or less happy with it.
Also, I didn't want to portray two girls circling each other and uselessly waving their weapons in an empty arena. Neither did I want to show a poor Slave girl facing off against a well trained and heavily armed Gladiator. An execution spectacle, in other words.
Instead, we see two equally skilled fighters. Indeed, they're skilled enough to draw a sizeable crowd of eager spectators who appreciate a hard fought contest. I'm working on a few more. Mainly just poses at the moment which hopefully capture the synergy of two fighters locked in combat.
