Description
It wasn't too often during his employment with BLU was he given the opportunity to really reminisce and think of home.

So when they awoke to a fresh blanket of snow he couldn't at all remember the last time he had been so happy for something.

Of course he wasn't the only one who was delighted to find what had come over night, finding the Scout and Pyro just as excited and ready to get out and enjoy it.

It wasn't too big of a surprise to find the letter from the Administrator outlining that because of the unexpected weather the days fighting would be cancelled and the two factions would have to find something else to busy themselves with.

That was when he came up with his idea.

As a child back home he remembered fondly of the days and countless hours he and many of the other boys had spent building and perfecting their forts preparing for the upcoming war.

There would be no dying, he explained to the others, that the name of the game was to simply take the other 'teams' fort whilst pelting them with snowballs.

"Now Heavy, I reckon we're all a bit too old for this sort of thing." The Engineer began as he warmed his fingers around his mug, "That and I'm sure it's dangerous in its own way."

"Funny to hear you speak of the danger laborer when the entirety of our lives consists of blowing the REDs to pieces and killing them in the most painful ways fathomable."  Spy spoke now, hardly turning his gaze to the man, "Besides you have a helmet what all could go wrong with throwing little balls of snow at each other?"

"That settles it!" Soldier finally said slamming his fists down on the table, "Its war! I will defend the glory of my country against yours!"

Spy stared at the Soldier, he couldn't help but smile at the issued challenge before nodding, "Then I accept."

The Heavy smiled to himself as he looked around the table, both Medic and Sniper seemed less then pleased at the prospect of spending the next several hours outside in the snow building forts but reluctantly agreed to it.

The Heavy hummed to himself as he and the Demoman went about constructing their fort and all seemed to be going well. It would be he, the Demo, Medic, Spy, and Sniper, against the Soldier, Engineer, Scout, and Pyro and he had a good feeling about them winning this little 'exercise'.

Medic had flat out refused to participate unless convinced why the entirely of their team would be risking hypothermia for some silly little game, so Heavy and Spy had taken him aside and explain that it would give him the chance to throw things at both Soldier and Scout without the worry of hurting them too badly.

"What you think? Is good solid fort, will be hard for them to break." Heavy announced as he and Demo put the finishing touches on to what would be their cover.

Sniper snorted as he continued to make up their snowballs with Medics help, Heavy took that moment to go over and check on them.

He did a double table on the snowballs they had put together and frowned, "Nyet is too small!" he said as he crouched down with them, "Well 'scuse me but I think they're the roight way around." Sniper said stopping to warm his hands in his armpits as he looked at the Russian over the top of his glasses.

"Pah, tiny little things."  The Heavy said as he started gathering snow  and rolled it into a snowball more or less the size of the Sniper's head. "Dis is good one."

"Aye bu' can ye thow tha?" Demo had walked up to them and the Russian nodded, "Is easy." He said as he watched the Scot crouch and clumsily gather snow into his hands and roll it, Heavy couldn't help his chuckle as he watched the man fumble with snowballs before finally taking a sticky grenade from his pocket and simply roll that into the snow. "Ah, there we go, s'guid now."

Heavy was about to say something when he heard the bugle across the yard, he straightened to see the Soldier charging towards them struggling to hold on to the rather sizable snowball he carried nearly stumbling several times with it.

"Hah is good trick yes?" he asked now looking to the others chuckling with he saw Medic already lining up his toss, "Be careful doktor, others are around, letting Soldier be bait for them."  He heard a soft thump and chanced a look over the top of the fort to find the Scout peaking around a corner looking at him arms full of snowballs prepared to throw another until he saw the Russian and ducked back around the corner.

"Is little Scout's  plan am thinking." The Heavy said noticing some of the others in several other positions, "Has brothers so, must have played dis game before."

Sniper was eyeing the Scout now, moving slowly to line up his toss as the runner slowly inched forward.

Heavy chuckled, "Wait until Little man is closer, so the look on his face is seen." He turned his attention to the Soldier suddenly at a particularly enraged yell and saw the man, after being pelted in the face a few times, had slipped and proceeded to only hit himself with the snowball he had been carrying.

"For someone who did not want to play, doktor is good at this game!"

Halfway through the chaos the Spy had disappeared, returning not too long later with the Pyro being led along behind him and Heavy looked at him curious, "Why is little Pyro here?" he asked an the Spy looked to him, "We're going to negotiate a ceasefire," he began lighting a fresh cigarette as Pyro promptly plopped over and began to make snow angels.

Heavy looked from Pyro to Spy before smirking, "Is Spy cold?" he asked unable to help the smirk and finding his smile widening at the unamused look on the Spy's face at the question, "Well, unlike you that grew up in this…" he flourished his hand to emphasize his point, "Enviroment, I was born in the South of France and I assure you it is nothing like this."

"Is okay to admit that you are cold." Heavy continued wanting to get as much teasing in as he could until the Spy went inside, "Even Sniper and Doktor have said that they are cold."

The Heavy only smiled and watched as the Spy and Pyro joined the others at the fort. He looked on in amusement as he saw Soldier and Scout hesitantly walking up, and amidst the chatter of 'We will not negotiate' a settled of some sorts was being reached.

The Russian couldn't help his smile as he continued to listen to the terms being negotiated. He took a moment to check on the medic, the tip of the man's nose red from the cold and he laughed wrapped one arm around him, "Come doktor, will take you inside from cold and let them play." He said half leading, but mostly carrying the smaller man along with him.

He had decided long before the game had started that he would make a treat for the others to enjoy, and the Medic had agreed to help him so the two set about making up nine mugs of hot chocolate and the Medic had even elected to share some of the chocolate the Heavy knew he kept locked in his desk.

"Was good day for team." He said and the Medic glanced to him, still red-faced from the chill, "I vill admit to zhat being…. Amusing but too cold." He said as they continued to set the mugs on the table, "But you enjoyed it?" Heavy asked as he and the Medic sat down to wait for the others.

They didn't have to wait for long hearing the others voices drifting up the hallway towards them, the Heavy grinned as the others came in, taking notice immediately at the Scout's twitching movement as he squirmed about scooping the slush that had found its way into the front of his pants.

"Don't ya freakin' sleep tonight asshole!" the threat of course lacked the venom as he was still hopping around trying to get what was left of the snow from his trousers as the Pyro stood there giggling. Spy was the first to notice the hot chocolate and glanced to both Medic and Heavy before seating himself and taking a sip of it, "Merci."

Heavy nodded to him and continued to grin as he looked around at the others as they slowly took their own seats.

In a way perhaps this was why he never really thought of home, they were something of a tight knit group of misfits and in some twisted way acted as some sort of strange family, Heavy took another sip of his hot chocolate listening to the chatter around him.

This turned out to be something of a very good snow day.

I don't know who the chars are, but I like the atmosphere--the read senses something dark here, but it stays at the edge of the light-hearted activity. Its well written and makes me interested in the story behind it.
