Description While working on a coloring contest, I got the idea of making a tutorial of how I actually do my CG work!

This is the first part of my CG tutorial. This part will cover how I scan and prepare my lineart.

Can you do this on Adobephotoshop 2.0.... I don't have the pen tool... Is there a different way?

Hmm.. I've never seen Photoshop 2.0 for myself, but as long as you have the following, you can follow this tutorial:

Tools:
- Magic wand
- Brush/airbrush
- Eraser

Image effects:
- Levels (ctrl+l)

Those are the most basic things you need.

Edit!

Everything for screen should be at 72dpi as that is screen resolution. Higher dpi values are for print and relate to the lines per inch on a litho press.

Scan in a 300dpi, but in photoshop go to Image > Image Size..., note down the pixel values, change the resolution to 72dpi and insert the original pixel values. This way you don't lose or make up any data and remain with the same size file on screen at the correct resollution.

Have a nice day!

Spence

Oh, and as for your epson inkjet at home, they're now pretty good with detail, etc, so I would suggest printing at 150dpi to 350dpi

The only way to work out what works best for your computer and your printer is to try some samples and see what happens.

Yes! This is great, I get bw pictures to do heightmaps and it has that not quite white crap on it.
Now I have a better method than painting over stuff.

How did you decide how to draw your characters?

If you mean how I came to use these techniques, they're the result of little tips and tricks I pick up from here and there, mostly from the internet. Then I guess I just developed my own method!

For instance, my knowledge on this tutorial on levels came from a comic magazine, which features a "How We Draw" section in every issue!

Some of that, downloaded the tutorials because I could use those techniques on other stuff.

I am more interested in why you draw your characters the way you do.
Why did you pick that style over others?
Basically am curious why you choose the elements in your pictures.

Apologies if I am being too nosy.

Well, I guess I just adjusted my drawing style to what I like to see and what works for me! I always go for drawings that are simple in detail and yet still look great! The simplicity allows me to finish drawings more quickly and it makes CG'ing easy for me.

I'm particularly influenced by chibi character styles in RPG's and other games!

Actually, it's more like "RPCom's how we CG"! If there has to be a name under which I should place all my series, it'll be "Role Player Comics"!
