Description
This is a first basic render test for my new stuff I'm currently working on and I will post this image only 1 or two days to maybe get some feedback.M4 with diffuse textures only for now, I worked on the eyes today and experimented a lot to get the right iris effect and color. I think that I can live with that face morph too for now, the upper lip maybe needs a bit work still. And Alexios Hair really suits him.
Straight PP 2014 render, just filtered the colors a bit in Photoshop, no other postwork. Lighting is my basic light rig, one HDR, one Specular only and one Sun.
Tell me what you think when you have a minute.
And thanks for viewing.

What strikes me the most are the eyes. I always love blue/grey/green eyes with dark hair. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b… " width="15" height="15" alt="

I would like to see a bit more details on the skin and the lips. The skin looks flawless, like an airbrushed model. One of the reasons I love the Tye skin is there is detail like the red in the cheeks, detail in the lips both in texture and color.
The facial morph is pleasing, though, very much like a guy you would meet next door. I love strong features for males, not girly feminine/bishi stuff. LOL I like my men to be manly! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b… " width="15" height="15" alt="

Otherwise, love the eyes and morph!

Thank you Liesel. I'm so glad you took the time to look at my image and gave me some tips.
I'm glad you like the eyes, it took some time to get them where they are now. Eyes are always difficult because they look different with every lighting.
One reason that there is not so much detail on the skin visible yet is that there's no bump, specular and displacement maps rendered, I think the look of the skin will improve a lot with it. I will especially take care for the lips this time.
I also havn't painted any face or body hair yet which also adds to the details.
Another reason that there are no moles or very special details on the skin yet is that I have another face morph for the texture with different brows, but the same skin. But I will add some as soon as I finished cleaning up the textures for seams in Cinema4D, which is almost done now. (Only fingers and toes left, but I need some time for it. )
Thank you again very much.

I look forward to seeing more on this guy. The big plus for me in buying textures are the eyes, because they are the windows to the soul and it really helps set the character. Good luck with Madoc!

This was a first test, Vashek! You see for yourself that in this render so much is missing! Made only to be sure I'm on the right track!

It might be the first test... But it still shows his fine features!

Hey there, I really would not feel right offering a full critique because I would be insanely happy to be even a quarter as polished as you with my work. Digital art is just something I don't seem to have any talent with whatsoever and even with traditional media I'm mediocre at best.
I can however offer a first impression from someone who stumbled across this piece while wandering through a friend's DA pages:
His eyes are stunning. I love the color and they are very intense. I like his expression, and obviously he's very pleasing to look at. That chin!
The only negatives that my extremely untrained eyes can pick up (and I can't give you technical terms so I'm speaking only as an "end user" who is relatively clueless to anything other than pure aesthetics) are to do with his skin and his hair. I can see color and shading differences for pores in his skin but for some reason the actual texture isn't translating? Gah, see I"m terrible at this... I don't know how to say it. I can see where the three dimensional texture should be but its flat, like it's covered with makeup or foundation so it's muted and "flat". Does that make sense? This is especially the case across his nose and cheeks where you can clearly see the pores which is good, but there is no... ummm... depth? to the little indentations where the pores should be. It's also the case with his lips, (very nice lips btw kind of reminds me of a very young John Travolta ) there are lines where the creases should be but no actual creases visible.
The only other thing was the hair, just on his brow. The little wisps coming down over his eye are kind of 'stuck together' as if they are heavily gelled, which is fine, but the very tips look a little too uniform even for gel to account for. It's just the tips, but they look a little 'painted'? Does that make sense?
Oh I feel terrible giving critiques... Can I just say he's hot and crawl back to my corner to contemplate how manly he is?
Seriously though, I was being honest when I said that I would be very happy to be even a fraction as good as you are, and the only reason I mentioned any of the above was that crits were requested. He really is very good as is and I hope I get to see the finished version

Hey Emmy, I'm very glad you had the time to share your thoughts about my posted image. And I'm happy you like the overall impression the character makes and his face shape, even if he's not perfect (yet ). It's reallly fine to see it through your eyes! (And a little funny to!
)
I of course know what you mean when you say the texture isn't translating. That has a simple reason that for now and for this image I had a texture for the face that has the color information of the skin only. You know, a complete 3D texture set has beside the color (diffuse color) also a texture for bump (the identions and pores and such fine details like the lip's creases, also there is a specular texture for the shine and reflection of the skin, and there's a displacement texture for such deteils like veins on hands, feet and head.
That's all still not included with the current image. But I will update the image as soon as have those textures all ready.
For the hair, well, I will see what I can do to find a different hairstyle that looks a bit more natural. lol
Thank you very much again for taking the time to talk to me! I really appreciate it!

Aaah yup, I wondered if you had some extra texture bits and bobs to do, I had a quick look at some of your other pieces too (you do beautiful work by the way! so jealous!) and they seemed to have a lot more of the "stuff" that wasn't there in this pic.
I'm really looking forward to seeing this when it's completely finished!
Thanks for replying back anyway, I was worried that I would seem a bit presumptuous because like I said, I'm really bad at digital art, and I have no idea what I'm talking about from a technical point of view... I have actually learned a lot from what you have said though, and I think I might have to dust off my pad and have another go with a bit more research on technique and how to get those textures happening The main problem with me as an artist is that I get so incredibly impatient. I know what I want my pieces to look like and I get so frustrated when I can't get them to look right that I tend to give up.
So, Thanks for posting a piece (and reply ) that gave me a nudge to try again!

Oh there's still so much to do that it for sure takes some time before I can post another shot - the three main texture pieces (face, torso and limbs) are ready though and I finished it yesterday that the all fit together seamlessly. That's the base I can build now the textures for the bump and specular channel. I also painted (by hand in Cinema4D) a first version of body and face hair already, but I still need to paint the veins for all body parts - including genitals. (The penis is a separate figure and also needs all four texture components, color (diffuse), bump, specular and displacement.)
The skin is based on photos btw. of a human male model. It takes a special photo shooting with special lighting (as shadowless as possible) and special posing. My task is to blend all photos together to a skin around that 3D male model I'm working with right now. But that's only the first step. Creating the components that the skin looks good (and lifelike) in a 3D program is the main part of the work, I think.
So you see, it's a very complex procedure all in all.
I'm glad that I could encourage you to start again drawing. Practise makes perfekt, really - don't get impatient with yourself - no one is perfect from the start! Research is always good to improve your knowledge about all the things that are necessary to know, but really important is that you practise, practise, practise. It's the experience that nobody else than yourself can give you. And don't set your expectations and goals to high, small steps will bring you forward.
Wish you all the best!

I'm sure this is going to turn out extremely well like all of your other awesome content/characters.
One day I am going to learn how to create characters. I should find some good tutorials.

Thank you Steve, I too wish that. Creating characters is complex and time-consuming, I doubt you will find tutorials, maybe only for parts of the process - there are many, many ways for creating textures for instance, creating morphs too, but there's also distribution and promotion.
