“I know, I know,” said Ciara. “But you said the transformations were going to stop after the split. And it’s been six years, why would another one happen now?”

“I said they would probably stop,” the doctor corrected her. “The infection usually becomes permanently dormant after the first transformation, but sometimes exposure to specific external factors can cause it to revive. Have you consumed, inhaled, or touched anything you normally don’t as of late?”
“Like what?” “Impossible to say. It’s probably something uncommon in your case since you’ve been off your suppressants for a while.” “Well how should I know?” Ciara asked impatiently. “I’m a busybody. I’ve got two jobs and three kids to feed.” “Oh, your sister’s still in rehab?” “Yes. Anyway, I run around all over town every day. If we’re going by your logic, literally anything could have transformed me and it’s impossible to know what.”

“You might find yourself feeling different when you're near it. Some patients report a hazy feeling when they're around 'their' factor. Also, there’s a good chance that your immune system will have adapted and will be able to prevent it from transforming you again.” “But there’s a chance that it might not have adapted?” Ciara asked. “Well, yes, but it’s very low. I’d say that around 95% of patients are only transformed once by a certain factor before becoming immune to it. There are exceptions though. I’ve got a patient whose immune system won’t adapt to her transformative factor, but that factor is duck gizzard so she’s relatively fine.”
“I guess that’s a relief. So what should I do now?” Ciara asked. “I can give you another suppressant injection. It won’t reverse the transformation but it’ll make you immune to further ones for about six months.” “Don’t bother,” she sighed. “I’m still out a small fortune from the last round.” The doctor picked up his clipboard. “Well, the best thing I can recommend is that you try to adapt. As I said, what you’re dealing with is comparatively minor, but if you find that you just can’t get along with your new breasts, I can arrange a removal. Anything else?”
“No,” Ciara grumbled. “Thank you, Doctor.”
