Description
Comic Book Cover, DC Comics STAR TREK. Pencil, Ink, Brush, Opaque gouache, China marker. Keeping with my theme of rendering cover images in a movie-poster, or film-still style, I designed this illustration to be a generic representation of the big-screen series. In the cast boxes are the "Magnificent Seven," along with the guests for this issue, including Admiral Nogura. I wanted the viewer to be able to almost hear Jerry Goldsmith's musical theme, or perhaps even that of James Horner, my personal favorite.Related content

Not familiar with the issue, but the woman just above Admiral Nogura's image looks a bit like the actress Jill Clayburgh. She was a popular actress from about the same period.

I still have 3/4 of my DC Trek comics and I just re-read this one two days ago. Thanks to you and the others involved in the books for keeping my younger mind off my situation at the time, very sick, in/out of hospital all the time, needles and surgeries..rough going, but Trek helped.
Thank you Mr. Moore for helping a kid to daydream when reality wasn't an option.

Wows, wows, and more wows. SO. MUCH. DETAIL. You succeed in capturing the film-poster feel.

I can affirm that this then-youthful reader heard Mr. Goldsmith's score when he happened upon this issue. I'll never forget it. My brother and I were with our grandfather for the day and we stopped at a convenience store on our way to Churchill Downs for the afternoon. I was new to "Star Trek" and entirely oblivious to there even being comics when I saw this cover on the spindle. I HAD to have it, and while I've dismantled portions of my "Trek" comic library over the years, that first purchase is on the permanent "keep" list. Thanks for catching my eye nearly 20 years ago.

THIS IS SO WELL DONE. I'm practically speechless. The shading and basic lines are awesome, and you captured each character so perfectly. I definitely hear Goldsmith's theme.

That one has a very good opening sequence which I thought should have become "Kirk's Theme," as he scales El Capitan. But outside of this, and a couple other cues, I found that Goldsmith score to be a bit deficient in comparison to the one for the first Trek feature.

I agree...But James Horner's ST:II and ST:III themes are my favorites anyway.

They did color the printed version, so your socks would again be rocked if ever you could see it.

I like the addition of Nogura. It sparks a few ideas of deeper political-driven plot lines. Is that Chapel or Saavik in the fourth box or something we're not familiar with?

No, the lady is a guest star in the story of that particular issue. I don't remember her name.

This is fantastic! There's something extremely grand about the way you portray the Enterprise an' Gang. Especially the Enterprise, it's a very stunning viewpoint.

I remember this cover when I used to collect those DC comics. It was one of my favorite covers... Then my sister got ahold of the comic and because she was mad at me for some reason or another, she threw it (the entire comic) in the toilet.
Lesson learned: never have sibblings, and if you do, chain them up to the roof of your house during thunderstorms.
