Description
From left to right, top to bottom:-The Crow (James O'barr)
Pretty much all mediums: Comics, Films (except Wicked Prayer), and TV series. It's so tragic, but so beautiful. I've never been so moved by somebody elses work as I was with The Crow.
-Harry Potter (J.K. Rowling)
I'm a HUGE fan of the franchise. I love how the magic is integrated into the real world as opposed to pure fantasy. It has such a sense of magical wonder.
-Tim Burton
The first film I remember seeing was Beetlejuice, followed shortly by Edward Scissorhands. Though I don't like his newer stuff as much, I'll always have a nostalgic love for his films. His visual style has deffinately impacted how I draw.
-Roger Rabbit
This represents my love for classic animated characters like Bugs Bunny or Mickey Mouse. Roger Rabbit just happens to be my favorite. He has such elastic exadurated expressions which I've tried to incorporate into my art for years.
-Jhonen Vasquez
While his art style is really simplistic and cartoony, his sarcastic humor is edgy and brilliant. "I Feel Sick" is my favorite, but his works as a whole inspire me constantly.
-Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird's TMNT was the first comic book I ever got. Between that, and the 80's animated series, I was hooked at a young age.
-Kelowna, BC
Despite being a bit boring at times, and unreasonably hot in the summer, I've never felt more at home than I do in Kelowna. It's no Vancouver, but it's beautiful, and inspiring.
-Ghostbusters
The films and the 80's animated series shaped... and terrorized my childhood. Shut up, Vigo the Carpathian was horrifying! The Ghostbusters STILL inspire/haunt my imagination.
-Resident Evil
I've spent more hours than I care to admit playing/replaying as many games from this franchise as I could get my hands on. It has redefined my love for horror.
-Neil Gaiman
Hands down, my favorite writer. With stories like Coraline, Stardust, Neverwhere, and of course the Sandman series... inspiration is never more than a page away.
-Coheed and Cambria
This concept band, who's strung together a sci-fi epic saga (The Amory Wars) across five albums, all of which having catchy tracks, just oozes creativity and inspiration. Whether I'm reading the comics, or listening to the albums... I always feel like I'm involved in something so much bigger than myself.
-True Blood
I've had a thing for Vampires as far back as I can remember, and True Blood encompasses everything I love about the mythos. While it's still a relatively new thing for me, it's had a strong impact on me since I first watched it.
-Batman
Batman has always inspired me as a character more-so than even as a franchise. I mean he goes out of his way to make the world a better place on his own, without any super powers. Plus he just has a badass character design, and some pretty rad villians.
-Penny Arcade
This is the best webcomic I've ever stumbled upon because the humor was so tight, and it has strong roots in gaming (console AND table-top). They're one of the main reasons I decided to try my hand at comics.
-The Matrix
This series constantly pushes the boundaries of what can be done with film, and the story is imaginative and extraordinary. It makes the mind race with possibilities.
-Double Fine Productions
I loved what Tim Schafer did with the original Monkey Island games, but when he started his own company and made hits like Psychonauts and BrΓΌtal Legend he hit a new high. He's a special kind of genious, and his work constantly has me crawling back wanting more.
-Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland
The original strips by Winsor McCay are extremely beautiful and show that newspaper comics can be so much more than simple little jokes. The animated adaptation however is one of the most beautiful and exciting studies of dreams and dream-like realities that I've ever seen. To this day Nemo remains one of my favorite animated films ever.
-Stolen Babies
When I first heard this band, I'd never heard anything like it before (Sort of a Goth-rock mixed with a cabaret/circus-esque sound). Ever since then, I can always rely on the band to paint a creepy environment in my mind and help me to create a darker tone in my work.
-Doctor Who
I was reluctant to watch the world's longest running sci-fi programme at first because of how ridiculous the premise sounded. Once I finally watched it however, I was blown away by the sheer brilliance of the writing. It's one adventure after the next, and when I watch it I feel like I can do anything.
-Jamie Hewlett
I've never seen such a stylized albeit simplistic art-style as Jamie's before. He has such an elegant flair to his characters, from each member of his co-created band Gorillaz down to the dirty, tough-as-nails Tank Girl. He is unbelievable with expressions and posing, and he makes me strive to be a better artist.
-Earthworm Jim
I was more influenced by the tv series than I was of the videogames, though I loved those immensely aswell. The show captured all the humor of the games in an exadurated over-the-top animation that was fun to watch. It's shows like these that make me want to create something fun that people will enjoy... regardless of what the ridiculous subject matter may be.
-Raeleeta Taylor (~CootieInfestation )
My beautiful bride to be is single-handedly the most inspirational force in my life. Not only is she extremely talented herself, constantly impressing me with the art she creates, but she also goes out of her way to help me out of a slump and push me back into my groove when I lose my way. Things have been really difficult for me lately, and if it weren't for her... I probably wouldn't be drawing anymore at all.
You know you want to do this too, stop kidding yourself...
