Description
Seeing as for the trolldown final I plan to draw an asston of comic pages, I figured it was time for a rough/sketched warmup exercise. I also tested out what doing lineart in corel painter 9 is like... it sucks and I'm probably never doing it again :IBut yeah, bit of my Altamaran stuff here.
Pamkha be nice to your guests ok?

ffffff I really really like that panel with the admiral. The delicacy of his hands and the authority he exhudes is really captivating!
I think what looks odd about the dark speech bubbles is that in most panels they're pretty much the darkest thing on the page, and they become the borders of the panels somehow. If you stuck some clean black bars to divide the panels I think not only would it complement your lose paint-y style but would stop those speech bubbles sinking into the page so much? Maybe?
I also agree about the lettering brush: the lineart brush would be much better.

thank you! I actually opted for once to try and draw him from an angle that didn't function as a... beauty shot? I thought maybe I should try and capture a character without showing their face/expression fully, and see if I could get him across to people still. So I'm actually really glad you like that panel particularly! 83
The lettering was definitely an experiment that didn't go so well though .__. In retrospect I suspect speech bubbles are definitely generally lighter than the background for a reason. Also my god the amount of comments just about my handwriting. I generally prefer handwritten comic panels because if fonts are too... clean? they tend to jar with the art a bit for me... but even with a different brush I wonder if my handwriting is up to it now XD

I think your handwriting is just fine I really don't see a problem with it. It's the fuzzy brush that makes it a bit tricky to read at some points.

Loving that last panel for some reason...
(Like the others said, the one thing that strikes me as off about the page is the dialogue. If you hand-letter, it usually looks better to use the same type of brush as the lineart (the fuzzier the brush, the harder to read) or if you choose not to, Blambot has some good lettering fonts. That and the dark balloons look a little strange... maybe something about having a bright scene but dark colored speech bubbles? I don't know, that's just off the top of my head... otherwise it looks really good!)

And additionally, I've been using my spare time at work to completely design panels/bridge layout/infantry uniforms, etc etc for FedCom! I'm not sure if I'll upload to DA, but at your request I think I just might! And if not, I will certainly email them to you!

This will play well into the campaign!!!
ALSO! Due to the model of the Roger Young/Valkyrie, I can correct design mistakes for the decks/and it shows things on the outside I could not find elsewhere!!! Huzzah! Huzzah! Huzzah!
And the response appropriately would be:
"No worries, XO. I may have given orders to our Altamarans, and those involved in the co-opted attack on the Dirga, but in your home territory, an Admiral is an Admiral. I will readily accept their chain of command. But thank you for the reminder, I'll watch what my tone is around the brass here."
Especially -Fleet Admiral-. XD That's a solid 4-5 ranks above Captain in any fleet o.o

Gorgeous set up and it flows nicely. I've been comic pages that I have no clue what to read first. It's not a lot going on, but you know exactly what is. The writings a little hard to read, but if you did official comics, I think they'd be typed?

just as a note, it's a little hard to read the writing in the last bubble. other than that, the comic looks nice for a rough test ^^

i wonder if writing and drawing are inversely proportional, like for each amount of one you get, you lose the other, because my handwriting has been getting worse over the years! XD i think maybe it's because i have learned to write faster taking notes, so my handwriting is just sloppy from speed :/ my dad's handwriting is also bad, so it could even be genetic!
but i notice many artists seem to also have not-so-great handwriting... idk.

I'm totally for that train of thought. My dad and I both do art and have horrible hand writing. My mother can't draw for beans, but she writes beautifully. Maybe we're wired differently.

also the fact my mom was an artist could reinforce it on my side XD i don't think my dad really draws at all though :/ i think my mom's handwriting was actually pretty okay, but i don't remember ever really looking at it
i had also heard guys tend to draw better and girls tend to write better, so that is also something...

*quietly* My husband writes like crap and I draw much better than he, so I don't think we fall into that average. XD

it might be a statistic (or a generalization), i know im a chick and i can draw pretty well (i think XD), so it can't be true for everyone XD
