Description
this was the birthday cake that i made for my eldest sister's 28th birthday this year [2013]the image in the bottom left hand corner is a scan of the original idea that i got from a book on cake decorating form a friend of mine for christmas [ called 'The Birthday Cake Book' by Fiona Cairns and can be fond on amazon]
although as you can see i changed the design a wee bit, mainly as i wanted to use a cute elephant, i followed most of the overall instructions when it came to colouring the icing, etc
triple layer chocolate cake with chocolate butter-cream icing and covered in fondant [rollout] icing

thanks, i was quite pleased with how the colour worked out, i used white icing and food colouring, as my experience with pre coloured icing has never been very good, its always ether too dry or not the right shade, also if you need a lot it can get very expensive

I've had the same problem too. I haven't worked with icing too much but I've definitely found it easier to colour my own.
