It really kinda tickles me that so many people are offended by this very mild sexuality. I like it when my images bring out debate and emotion. Look at those favs roll-up!

That's what we wanted here, it makes her eyes big and prominent, and gives that fun wide angle perspective that we wanted, this wasn't a serious shot. BTW, lighting has nothing to do with focal length.

Other than the clarity, backdrop and perspective, I find this lacking as far as artistic goes. The combination of ice cream and her toplessness makes it lean more towards erotic than artistic nude. The melting ice cream is a bit too obvious.
Her eyes are very beautiful though. She might be better suited for busts or bathing suit ads rather than suggestively licking melting ice cream while top less.

She is perfect for all kinds of modeling, but she likes doing sexy shots and is very excellent at it. I do all kinds of shots of Breeanna, many are very G rated. But here, you wouldn't have wanted her to get ice cream on her shirt would you? That would be so icky.

I'm just saying that this image is clearly aimed more towards erotic and pornographic, more like something on a porn movie cover really.

The image wasn't "aimed at" anything. It is just fun and sexy like about 300 other images I have here. We also do a lot of very G rated images, but we're not letting any bunch of prudes tell us we always have to be G rated. I placed an adult warning on this, so deal with it. Most deviants love this image. Maybe you are not really a deviant.

I really want to ask a question someone else asked before and I KNOW you're going to give me shit for asking you things, even though that's protected by the very same rights that allow you to take this damn photo and upload it...
but what makes you think this really belongs here? I just want to ask. Give me your explanation. This... isn't that artistic. And just because you CAN show her tits doesn't mean you SHOULD. Though it seems to have worked out for you on account of this becoming popular.
Please try and resist blocking. You'll be no better than several other retards who block over someone questioning them or calling them out if you don't resist that.

By the way, I have to say that your use of the word "retards" is really offensive to me, so I guess we all have our issues. I like everyone to give respect to others, especially the most innocent among us.

There's a word in the title of the site, deviant. Look it up. And, art is in the eye of the beholder. I find this image beautiful, fun, sassy, sexy, hot, wonderful and artistic. Your judgment is your own and you have a right to it, but in the minority here, most people do love this image as you've pointed-out. Over 150 favs in one day, that is outstanding. If you don't like some sexy with your art, there are other, more censored sites that might be better for you. This site is full of images much, much sexier than than this one. And the history of art is full of sexier images. Check out the art of the ancient Egyptians for example, it was really as much porn as art. They loved images of people copulating in groups. So did many, many other cultures. My shot here just has one little cute nipple showing, and a girl eating ice cream. I will never understand what is wrong with that. Notice that I didn't block you, I would sooner explain and defend an image that I and many other love. On a site names "deviant" art, that shouldn't really require defending.

I don't think that's what the name of the site comes from, but that's irrelevant.
Also popularity is no indication of actual artistic value. Any artist can tell you that, as will an inspection of some of the other stuff on deviantART that becomes popular or gets lots of faves in a day- There may be some gems there but not all of it is really that good and some of it is not that artistic. That and there's no guarantee that art has maintained the same meaning in all millenia and areas.
That being said, you might want to compare your stuff to some of the images you are using to support your argument and some of the artistic nudes of more recent times...

JGBrey In reply to HedgehodgeMonster [2011-03-08 05:13:30 +0000 UTC]
I study the artistic nudes of others every day. Actually popularity really is the biggest measure of a work of art. Do you like the work of Picasso? Most of the world loves his very abstract nudes. I doubt that you would like them, just guessing though. but it is in fact his popularity that defines him as one of the world's greatest painters. I personally dislike the work of Andy Warhol. But most of the world hails him as one of the greatest in modern times. So I would never tell you that you have to like an image because others do, but respecting their opinions is kind of important. Society isn't a function of everyone agreeing, just of everyone giving others the right to their own opinion. and yes, the "deviant" in deviant art does mean that. I don't mind discussing this with you, as long as we can be civil about it.

I read somewhere it meant a deviation as in a change, not as in sexually deviant. I'll try and dig up the story, but it has something to do with dA's origins and what it originally was.
Actually I am very much into abstract, and I do appreciate both Picasso and Andy Warhol. Though the only painting by either I've seen except as an image in a book or a monitor is a print of Guernica in my grandmother's house.

JGBrey In reply to HedgehodgeMonster [2011-03-08 05:28:58 +0000 UTC]
A deviation can mean "anything that deviates from the normal." That is what art does best. It presents alternate ways of seeing things. My college art and photography professors always stressed that art needed to evolve. That as an artist, it's never enough to just see what others do, and do the same. We have to use our own unique view of things to make images that are our own, or they are not art, but copies of the art of others. So I pursue my own way of seeing things. You are welcome to not like my images, but many others here do. This image passed over 650 of my other images in one day. It is in my top 20 already, many of the images it passed didn't get that many favs in three years. I don't think these are sex starved fools faving the image because they can see a nipple. I think we only fav an image if we really enjoy it and wish to see it again and again. So with that, I will say good night to you, and thanks for your opinion. I hope you find some images that are more to your liking.

Just because you don't think that of the people who like it doesn't mean that all of them aren't. And like I said before, being popular is no guarantee of artistic value.
Also I'm still pretty certain that's not what they meant by deviantART when they decided to call it that. Did you try looking it up?

JGBrey In reply to HedgehodgeMonster [2011-03-08 05:43:09 +0000 UTC]
Its way too obvious, that word deviant was chosen because it has two meanings, both of which work perfectly for this site. One thing I will point out is that this image made you and I both think a lot about the nature of art and the role if sex in it. Another thing my professors always stressed was that if an image caused debate, deep thought, strong emotion, it was probably art and certainly worth while.

What do you have against her breast may I ask? There was a time not so long ago when women couldn't show their ankles in America. In some countries they still can't, or their face, or anything. Should we go back to that? Your revulsion at seeing a lovely breast/nipple is just a variation of those repressive ideas. The human body is beautiful, all of it. Showing it here was part of the sassy-sexy mood of the image.

Well, we do work well together, and we seem to think alike where making images are concerned. You're right about her work too, she interacts with the camera like perfection every time. The hardest thing about choosing shots of her is that there are about a hundred good ones, I just have to narrow it down from there. Not a bad problem to have!

That is a real complement to us both, thank you. I do agree. Breeanna and I do seem to get on the same page quickly when we plan a photo shoot, and even more so when we actually work. I love what she brings to every shoot; a bold sexy attitude, a sense that it has to be fun, not to mention the most amazing body, face, eyes and smile one could hope for in a model.

"fit and eating ice cream" could have been another title for this! Yes, she is the most fit model I've ever worked with, and that is saying a great deal, because all the models I work with are very fit.
