Tsunoda watched as Komiya disappeared rapidly in her rear view mirror as she pulled out of the parking lot. She caught the small half-wave he gave and felt a little bit sorry about having to leave him there like that.

His entire demeanor seemed to beg her to take him with her, to any place but there, and she understood where he was coming from. The heat, the dust, Buta, his too small stature (that she knew Buta and the others probably zeroed in on daily), and his sweet personality all were driving him to try to escape. But, frankly, there was nothing she could do but offer him an out and hope he took it. Life was hard that way.

She sighed a little bit at having to go back to work and play Ditzy to Director Ton again. He had been in a terrible mood lately, what with the abrupt departure of the Chief Accountant and a few new graduates coming in in a few weeks, ripe for training. She'd been mentally prepping herself because she'd heard there was a really tall hyena coming in. Yay. Hopefully he'd be nice.

She smiled to herself. The tactic of playing Ditzy to Ton did seem to help his mood, and thus everyone else's day, a thing which she was glad of and occasionally patted herself on the back over.

A loud horn blat brought her back to reality as she realized she'd been sitting at a green light for the last five minutes without moving, lost in thought.

Hitting the gas, she began zipping in and out of the lunchtime traffic, her little sportscar allowing her to move as easily as a fish moves through water.

Pulling into the Company parking lot, she hopped out and raced to the time clock and made it back to the department just in time to recieve more files and spreadsheets to organize. She frowned as as she lugged the boxes back to her desk, stomach rumbling. Every day was like this, with grumpy Ton, never-ending files, and always missing lunch to look after her brother. She couldn't understand why Ton didn't switch over to the newer, more efficient, automated computer and digital filing systems that the rest of the Company had, and why the hell Shika always depended on her to bring his lunch when he was a grown male and could easily do it himself.

Tsunoda grumped to herself hungrily as she sat down at her desk in the annex and pulled the top off one of the boxes.

As she pulled the top spreadsheet out and began going over it looking for the dates and times to begin organizing this load for filing, her mind went back to her conversation with Komiya that afternoon, about how she had trouble reading the spreadsheets, and how he had said she must be smart. She was hoping he actually meant that, instead of it just being a backhanded complement because she was cute.

She studied over the numbers on the spreadsheet, trying to find some sort of correlation between them all, or a correlation between the numbers and the dates. She mentally added, subtracted, multiplied and divided the numbers, sometimes even getting out her phone's calculator to help her as she attempted to teach herself how to read them. No luck.

Maybe if Komiya got the job, then...

She closed her calculator and laid her phone down, rubbing her right horn irritably.

Why was he still on her mind? He was just a construction worker who had pointed her in the right direction. She shouldn't even be giving him a second thought by this point.

Pushing him out of her mind (somewhat) she buckled down and began working on the spreadsheet again.
