Not a pleasant duty and not something that can be left to the convict women themselves because they are the ones undergoing the process. The end of every month brings fumigation and hard clean up for the convict women. Every convict has to earn her weekly shower and this is a privilege that can be stripped if a convict doesn't meet the exacting standards of a matron. Although the convicts strive to do so there are those that fail. This failure means that over a monthly period the convict's cells can quickly become rancid caused by the sweat of toiling at long hours of prison labour. In the cell blocks there is always some sort of stench that no amount of harsh smelling prison bleach can mask.

Most of the convicts hate this monthly ordeal where they are hosed down although many of them can't deny it is needed. At least the cell block will smell neutral for a few days before the next build up.
