Nice piece...good composition..with the elongated figures brings to mind for me...Goya or even pre-Renaissance stylized figures...

Oo, I love the textures and earthiness of traditional works, in addition this has a very intriguing concept

I love the elegance of the white hair figure and the dark haired figure's eyes and expression are very arresting

Thanks Christine (I'm Cathy BTW) I find I'm missing traditional painting, even though you couldn't separate me from my tablet with a large stick.

Beautiful dynamic , great colours and I love that extra Head in her hair.
I wonder whether there is some sprayed colour in the background (wings)

"Can you imagine the things you would do if you didn't have to look at yourself in the mirror?" - the hollowman.

Great piece!!! It's funny how it looks like they were caught in the middle of something. Like whatever was happening when you painted it, it's not finished.

joeyv7 In reply to Patilda [2008-08-12 12:32:37 +0000 UTC]

Thanks - it does have an unfinished look about it. I may change the wings later. Good eye on the furtive quality - the angel sees here anyway

Great piece! It's very different. I quite like the dynamic of it, and the slightly rougher than usual application of paint.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

joeyv7 In reply to Simanion [2008-08-12 12:34:09 +0000 UTC]

I want to paint like this all the time, I may be able to be more spontaneous with acrylics instead of oils. Oils take FOREVER

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Simanion In reply to joeyv7 [2008-08-12 17:06:40 +0000 UTC]

You know I have never, ever used oils. I've wanted to for ages. Im thinking about getting a set. I dont even know anything about how they work or what their advantages are, apart from the fact that they still look wet when theyre dry and they're harder to get off your brush, lol. YAY.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

joeyv7 In reply to Simanion [2008-08-12 17:17:57 +0000 UTC]

And I've never tried acrylics even though I got a set for Christmas
Try a cheap set @ first - or grab some used tubes oneBay, they sell nice lots of slightly shopworn/used tubes for cheap $$$$ all the time

I love the figure in the foreground - her pose and the lion (?) wrapping around her and her facial expression are all perfect. The whole piece is quite intriguing - the figures relative to each other, their colouring... great piece.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

joeyv7 In reply to catherineanne [2008-08-12 12:39:24 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, Catherine - (I'm Cathy BTW ) The foreground figure supposes she hides her vulnerability with the lion's rough exterior, but the angel has seen her all along

I do really like the foreground figure, I like her face.

I love how your paintings not only reflect a lovely subreal feeling, but you also examing aspects of life that we sometimes don`t in our world, full of fast things. I like how you stop, and see behond.

Lovely colours, shapes, and flow. The figures are almost magical! Great job my friend!

thanks - and it is a reference to issues like that - why on earth would anyone *want* to be invisible? ( Aside from the fun stuff you could do, I mean.) For all her pretending the angel still sees her
