As much it makes sense in this picture, I never quite understood the use of structured glass in a private wet room.

A poor upbringing where the unfortunates are made to feel ashamed of their body?

Probably the same thing that makes people wear nightclothes for sleeping even when the weather doesn't require it.

Ashamed even in their private rooms?

You're right, it's similarly strange than covering when no cover is needed.

While there are scientist who say we would sleep better in clothes (even if we'd prefer not wearing them because it's hot for instance, or due to other personal preferences), because clothes take away sweat from the body and make us feel more comfortable.

They don't have similar excuses for structured glass as far as I know.

Perhaps it protects from UV rays more effectively?

(I'm just guessing here. Please don't take me for a shower-glass expert!)

No expert here either.

There's no glass at all in my shower.

It would make me feel uncomfortable because I would expect it to explode any moment.

That happened to a friend of mine.
No damages or injuries because it was some kind of laminated safety-glass that doesn't shatter into million pieces
Still, I wouldn't want such surprises.

It's the essential actor, otherwise this picture would disappear instantly.

So... they stare at the wall? Is there a TV installed? That would be luxurious.

I suspect there's something else on their minds than watching TV right now.

(Studying the workmanship of the grouting, if you're wondering what I was alluding to.)

Shower stalls are very useful. Including for a deep back rub.

(Amazing glass texture)

And yes... ideal place for leap-frogging with your partner, even if there's the chance of a mishap occurring.

Can I ask specifically about the glass texture. I assume it is a PBR texture?

johnpf In reply to LapinDeFer [2020-02-26 17:02:49 +0000 UTC]

That all depends on your definition of what constitutes a PBR texture.

I simply mixed refraction and reflection at the appropriate IoR to mimic how glass reflects or refracts light, and added a procedurally-generated pattern to displace the surface by 0.75mm. The renderer did the rest for me.

(I'd say that's pretty much physically based.)

Right, but you did it in Cycles, I guess.
