Description
What am I dooooiiiiiingAnyhow, here's what's happened:
Chespie Rhinehart got lost while hiking in a park and is now being chased by a lion in a white suit. She is trying to escape with her new friend, Lockhead Martin - a shy boy with no nipples and no face. With his help, they've managed to find a way for her to return home, but the Key to Getting Out of Here is quickly getting out of here. And all the time this lion guy keeps huffing along behind them, gasping something inaudibly.
Oh yeah, the lion's name is Lady Killer. His associates call him "Mr. Killer," but he prefers to go by "Lady." He is very popular at the club he works for.
Hidden behind Lady: a small dog
Well, here's my first "serious" illustration of the year, for lack of better words. Normally the subject I enjoy drawing most is the girl, but this time I think my favorite is Lady Killer.
~swoon~
Anyhow, I tried something new this time in that I drew the foreground in Flash, but painted the background in Paint Tool SAI.
I'm liking SAI, but I still need to get the hang of making things not look...muddy. Blending colors is fun, but I want to keep the contrast that makes things interesting. I also need to figure out how to handle the brush to get strokes the size and shape I want. Maybe I'll have to watch a digital painter paint one of these days...
Made in Flash & SAI

I have to come up with a new word to describe this genre of art. This is a prime example of
what-the-fuckery. And I love it by the way.

I'm not sure which is better. The picture or the explanation that goes with it.

What happens when you insert the Key TO Getting Out of Here into Martin?
I assume nothing, it seems the wrong type of key for him.

Walking is controlled falling...
So maybe flying is controlled tripping?

Headcanon: Lady Killer only ever wanted to give her directions home, but Chespie was scared of his scary face and ran away.

To me...the background's perspective feels off, it doesn't match the characters in terms of depth.
I think it's because you don't have those converging line of trees on both sides of the pathway, and coupled with your relatively bright colour palette makes the background feel really flat D:
I know scale is mainly used to indicate perspective, but I think darker colours/shadows will help the foreground really pop out and help you achieve that feeling of depth.
The colouring of your characters is really superb though, and as usual I delight in your imagination and back story.

I see it now. She dropped her ID at the club. Mr. killer, being such a gentlemen tried to give it back. For some reason she ran away, probably just shy.
Also just to bug you, this neither has a reacquiring character or a ninja.

Either way, I'd imagine he's a fan of U2.
And his favorite kinds of birds are Blackbirds. Or maybe he likes Raptors more.
Okay never mind this is awful.

He's probably just asking if they know the way to the nearest water fountain. Hiking in a nice white suit like that, ESPECIALLY while covered in fur, would overheat anyone. Plus I've noticed a subtle trend where your seeming bad guys aren't actually bad guys and are usually involved in something totally innocuous that just comes across looking bad to everyone else in the picture. Or vice versa.
Also, this sentence: "Well, here's my first "serious" illustration of the year, for lack of better words." XD This amused me greatly.
Now, my final question is, what is Chespie carrying in her right hand there? I thought it might be a broomstick at first, but now I think it is merely a stick of some other nature.

JohnSu In reply to Riverfox237 [2013-01-19 04:35:45 +0000 UTC]
It is a mere stick of some mother nature.
And yeah, I suppose it is difficult for me to write villains. Maybe I am getting too attached to my creations?
Though EVIL SAMURAI was pretty explicitly evil, right?
