Description
Like a caterpillar, the hearts grows and takes in all it can. When it cannot take in anymore, it protects itself; shields itself from the world. It becomes a cocoon. Only with the right conditions and the right timing, it can release itself again, and become a butterfly. If that were so, I would call this the caterpillar-to-cocoon stage.
Hello, deviantART. I would like to re-introduce to you, Reggie H. Elderberry.
Reggie was a long-haired beauty throughout high school and her first years into college. She started dating this one guy and they were in a good, healthy relationship. Reggie knew she was in love. This guy was even generous enough to wait until she was ready to have a more intimate relationship. However, after they finally connected, she woke up the next morning to an empty apartment and an empty heart.
After coming back out from her apartment two weeks later, things didn't seem to get any better. Now, everywhere she looked, the guys were only interested in her body and what that may offer them. That was never a problem with a man by her side. She didn't want any other man by her side though. Instead, she decided that she would take the masculine form to repel unwanted advances by the idiots that called themselves men.
She moved away to go to art school, taking this new start to change things. Her hair was chopped off and her outfits told the viewing public less and less about what sex she was. She was now the mysteriously beautiful male art student that you all know as Reggie.

This picture was inspired by a photograph I found on dA. I saved the artist's username with the picture, but I deleted the picture eventually. I swear I'll give credit when I find the photograph again.
Yes, Reggie is a girl. Sorry to disappoint my shounen-ai Dan/Reg fans. But I like seeing Reggie as a boy, too, and I didn't want to stop anyone from thinking otherwise.
Also, I want to point out the bit of symbolism. Since I'm bad at plants, I'm not sure anyone would get it, so here goes:
You all kinda get the drift of the butterfly tattoo by now, I'm hoping. However, the butterfly is framed by a specific plant. It's (suppose to be) a wormwood plant. Wormwood was an interesting choice for me when I wanted to do something like this. When it comes to flowers and their meanings, wormwood represents seperation and the torment of love. And, looking into the plant further, it used to be a key ingredient to many alcoholic beverages.. which I thought fit nicely since Reggie is a bartender.
I hope you enjoy this piece, because I took a lot longer on this than any piece so far. However, I treasure it and ask that all critiques (and any possibly yaoi flames) be left to yourselves. Thank you.

Yay, yay, yay!
Well... not yay for her past torment, etc., just yay for... dah, you know, whatever!
This piece captures her emotion perfectly. She looks so innocent, too...

Your butterfly certainly found a home in her own cacoon, since she nabbed such an eye pleaseing serpent to join her.
I have loved this piece since it was a sketch, Robyn, and I am happy that you have let everyone know what Reggie is. Now for working more on her backstory...
She was birthed in Creative Writing class. You really outta send her "push" maker a copy of this to let him know what is going on. I'm very sure Thomas will get a kick out of it. Wonderfully done

Daddy saw this on the computer and didn't think that it was my art... or that it might have more than sex appeal. I'm a little uncomfortable sending this to Mr. T. Really glad you liked it, too. Especially the coloured version. Wasn't sure I'd do the sketch justice. Love ya!
