Description The holiday season comes near.
The houses in the neighborhood
Wrapped up like a present under the tree,
With pretty paper and elegant bows.
The roofs trimmed with colourful lights –
Multicoloured, Icicle, Blinking radiation –
But what’s inside when the paper is off?
Ripped and shred and balled up,
Flung into the trash.

What do the colourful decorations hide?
A plain cardboard box,
Full of overpriced retail and debt,
Censored words of religious figures.
Where is Christ? Where is Hosanna?
Whatever happened to freedom of religion?
One religion forced to push their God aside.

A closer examination of the box -
Holes lining the unwrapped present.
Ah! I see now –
The family is missing;
The love, the thought, the reason.
The unnecessary expensive gifts left no room
For togetherness and enjoying the Christmas season.
How this time of year craves for love,
And all we do is put money in the pockets
Of the ones who try to destroy the silent night before us.

I like this work, and yes, I too am sorta miffed over the de-Christmasing of Christmas. And the commercialization... bleh. Sure, I'd be happy if I got a Wii or a Playstation 3 under the tree this year, but all I'm really looking forward to is a month with my family (dang college...).

And having the picture set in a shopping mall is a very good touch.

I agree. Being in college has really taken away time from family, and I'm definitely looking forward to spending the holidays with my family.

Thank you very much for the comments and the favourite. I really appreciate it. ^_^

;_; oh my god- its so prettyful...
I love how ya put the ending.. The thought and reason for christmas being the main reason-
With the concept of presents being destructive against christmas o.o ^_^ Actually this real inspiring. To write a story on. o.o with a title such as: "How my presents ate my donuts"
oops. I meant.. "A real christmas of giving" Buahahah-

You expressed yourself beautifully here... I have tremendous respect for people who have the guts to follow their own path without apology, and when they can express themselves artistically is enriches us all. Excellent work!

I still enjoy sending out gifts at Christmas, however...

Well, I give gifts at Christmas time, too. And I can't say, that deep down, I don't like getting gifts - because I do. But it was aimed at the people, one person in particular in my mind when I was writing it, who buys and buys gifts, even for the people at work who she doesn't like, just to gain their trust. Basically, buying love. One Christmas, when my parents were going through a divorce, I told my Dad that all I wanted from Mom was a hug. I like cheap and meaningful gifts rather than expensive gadgets that I won't use, you know?

Thank you for your comments, I'm glad you liked my piece!

Its true, the fact that the minority holds so much sway is scary, but what's even scarier is that the majority would just sit back and watch. My mom is joined in an association with Christian values at heart (all denominations of the church) and thanks to their outcry they have made a few companies change "happy holidays" back into "merry Christmas".

That's wonderful!

Now, I'm all about change and allowing rights to be given to any American who deserves to be treated like an American... but I'm so frustrated with the group of Atheists out to wipe out people's beliefs and take away what so many people in this world really need. Faith. It annoys me, and now they're trying to take Christmas, too. I do believe we should start speaking up.

Thank you for your comments, your favourite, and your kindness to listen to what I have to say.

This is a rather funny story, but a group of athiests posted signs saying "there is no God" and stuff like that all around my church, so the Youth Group went out and was taking them all down, and on the back they said "thou shalt not steal". XDDD Say WHAT?
