Hands down my absolute favorite interpretation of Cthulhu. I would kill to see this painted. Something about the six eyes as opposed to having just two just sends the creep factor sky high.

Thank you. Β I had completed another one earlier, but it was more anthropomorphic. Β I am sculpting this one trying to stay truer to the original idea of HPL. Β Not entirely based on his own drawing, of course, but utilizing elements of his description.

It is in my office at work (Cinema Makeup School). Β I'm glad you feel that way, as that is my desired result!

Haha, not at all That's my goal, is to utilize form to create an appealing draw, regardless of the subject.

A very neat version of him. Love the texture to his skin and wings. Very life like to start with, would be fun to see him painted.Β

Great work. Yet I worry, as the head seems so... slim. Cthulhu is mostly depicted with a more well-rounded head-form. I see from your works that it is NOT a lack of skill, so I guess it is your choice, which is legitimate of course.Β

Thank you. It's not slim. The head is as wide as the chest. He is turned to a 45 degree angle to the camera.

Amazing job, he looks awesome. How do you like monster clay vs Chavante? I love the idea of being able to heat up monster clay and poor it into a mold to work on it further.

I do like Monster for some things, but it's not as creamy to sculpt with as Chavant, but yes, it is less sticky and easy to melt and pour.

I've never heard of Monster Clay as I am new to the sculpting game. What temp does this harden at? Would I have to fire this material in a kiln or can I use my electric stove I salvaged for just this purpose? Great work! Love it!!

It does not harden as it is a wax/oil based clay, so it always stays soft. I would just make a silicone mold, then cast a rigid cast out of it.

Good deal. Thank you for your time. It will be awhile yet before I actually get to doing molds and whatnot. But thank you for the information and I will keep it in mind. Your work is awesome and look forward to seeing more.

Thanks! It definitely is still around, just not necessarily being utilized by the big toy companies or visual effects industries. We still use it in prototyping, special makeup fx, halloween, animatronics, garage kits, etc.
