Description
Hello,Before anything: Matt Khor accepted my "Project" and then I can work on all issues of it, there is some point to look a little more (like the final sharing of the subtitled videos), and I will see this with him.
Then don't fear collaboration. ; )
I started to follow the free tutorials made by Matt Kohr from http/www.ctrlpaint.com/
You can follow the Free Video library here (Basis and traditional drawing, Digital and Photoshop, personal development and imagination,…): www.ctrlpaint.com/library/
And come take a tour at his great shop: ctrlpaint.myshopify.com/
Well, ads aside, I want to make a more interesting thing to follow his guides, it's true that all needed things are already on his site, and he worked really greatly for us ! It's a non-negligible informational and learning content, and his products are all perfects !
To return to my website "helper", the goal is to motivate and help learners, here's the main features:
+ Easy navigation from any page: Access any video at any time using the Mega drop down menu at the top.
+ Motivating system: I want to add a special system for the "Homework" things, at first I want to integrate a "checklist system", the user check the box when he finish the task.
But I want to make it more motivating, then allowing user's to earn points and bonus when he complete a task can be best, but I will need a complete membership, registration and member system (and all the points/Rewards system).
+ Learn in any language: the webpages will be translated to many languages, but I can't do this all myself (French and English is not a big task for me, but others…), then a google translate engine (or API if possible, or GetText) will be installed at first.
I will Transcript the voice of Matt Kohr from his videos, but I have an issue, what do I do with the subtitles after? I want to upload all his videos on Youtube and then integrate the Sub's, but I prefer that he do this himself (for licensing reasons mainly), but I know that he have a lot of work to do too. We see what I can do, another solution is to use a video player that can read FTP file and can integrate Subtitles too (like VLC or PotPlayer).
Some other things:
+ I will add many links to the original Ctrl+Paint website and some ads for his latest products/offers, in any way most of the content well be his, then some credits are needed : )
At the moment I worked on the Mega-Drop-Down-Menu, You can see:
1.The menu closed, with the page slideshow at the top.
2.Open menu, the sub item is for Digital Painting 101.
3.Another sub-menu, this time I needed to integrate a lot of pictures without re-sizing the menu, then I used another "Slideshow menu", it work well on Firefox, prism and noxonsoft synthese, need to test on others browsers, but I don't know the result on Tablet or Hand-phones at the moment.
4.Another page of the second sub-menu.
At this phase nothing is complete, I worked on paper for my concepts too then nothing more to show for now.
I search somebody that can help creating a member system with all his features, and to integrate the Google Translate API (or alike) or GetText API, please contact me if this project interest you !
If the member system is integrated and working we will need moderators and administrators, need to think if I will add a forum too (except if www.CtrlPaint.com have his own), but a simple messaging system will be available on each pages (using Disqus or alike, or just Facebook embed messaging).
Sorry, I see that some important parts are cut …well I will upload the website to a temporary location to test it on all supports, then you will see how it work really for yourself ; )
by the way I will need some feedback:
+ Hand-phone/Smartphone Users: Try the website (please use a wireless connection, don't kill your budget for this ^^"), and if possible give me the size of your screen in pixel if you have any issues navigating or other (or just the model).
+ Tactile Tablet users: Like Hand-phone/Smartphone Users.
+ Home Computers and laptops: If you have any issues when navigating the site send me your screen size and I will see what I can do.
I want to make the website easily usable on any support, your feedback is really important for this.
Thanks for reading : )
Update 2015.07.05:
Matt Kohr replied to my message on twitter (thank you ( ; ), and with his «acknowledgement» I can continue to create this Website Helper !
I am happy to contribute on his hard work, and hope that others will follow.
For now I prepare the needed resources, like the Master document on Penflip.com to let user's contribute to the translations, and the main website to help learners follow the tasks and guides.
I need to do a lot of things, but hope to make this work quickly.
Update 2015.07.07:
I started to make the «Collaborative Translation Platform» some hours ago, first I wanted to use Penflip that have an integrated MarkDown editor but it can't support sub-folders… then I use GitHub because Penflip is based on it but is more flexible.
You can see my personal Branch here , and the first Audio-to-Text transcription based on «2) Traditional Drawing --> 1.Ctrl+Paint Unplugged - Road-Map» from the Ctrl+Paint library.
It's in SubRip format (it's a *.srt file type), if you want to test them you need to see the release as RAW (without page formatting). The content need to be reviewed by «a native English speaker» (have troubles with the "chaining" of words mainly)
Update 2015.07.13:
The collaboration system is now working on GitHub, penflip is too much limiting on folders structure.
All you need to do is create a new branch of the Master Repository at github.com/JpotatO/CtrlPaint_H…
I really recommend to use the Github Desktop app available at github.com
You can then clone the Repository to your desktop, on windows: with github-windows://openRepo/github.com/JpotatO/CtrlPaint_H…
Contact me for further help, or go to this Github project page and red the README.md, HOW_TO.md and CHANGES_TODO.md to be informed of all last things.
[!] There is some information files missing at the moment - like the full working guide, the video statistiques, and some others - I will release them at time.
*I add that I created some full transcriptions already, at first I wanted to start directly with the lessons (starting with Traditional Drawing section), but finally I started from the real start, Library Overview, and now I am on the 4th video of Digital Painting 101.
I've found a great tool to Transcript and Subtitle at the same time, it's subtitle Edit, available at www.nikse.dk
It's a great tool but I've suggested important features (like more control on the play speed an loop A-B), there's the Source Files available too, I din't want to program at this moment but if it's not moving I think to give a try and make a custom build.

Litlle update:
I just tried the «InnerHTML» system using Javascript, I successfully created a replaceable paragraph text (with html tags too), managed to assign formatted text to variables in different languages, and added "onclick" actions to let users chose the translation…
Finally I used a web hosting to install my Js script files, but I have some issues:
1.I need to create variables for Each paragraphs (
2.When the user chose the language if he reload the page or go to another the default text is shown - well I write all "base texts" in english, in this case if javascript is disabled the users can read in anyway - need to use cookies I think to save preferences, or use IP location to define country and language (but it can't really work with VPN networks).
3.All the texts are Manually Translated, it minimize errors and keep a good context, my issue here is that I can translate English to French (or contrary but not perfectly), a very little of German… then I need users to translate things, for this I think to create a penflip "book" for translating help, it work the same way as GitHub, it's easy for collaborating : )
I don't really used javascript at now, but I found some great tutorials on a website (they propose Javascript, PHP, VBS, HTML, XML, and others if you are interested, just need to take my Bookmark).
If you know a simple and good way to translate a website don't hesitate to inform me ; )
*I think to add this javascript system to the TeamL2D Home site at Teamlsd.businesscatalyst.com too, if I can't find easier to implement.
*You can see my translate test using the JavaScript system here: teamlsd.hostei.com/Translate_T…
