Description
For secret and exciting reasons, I wanted to practice drawing a more Luke McKay-ish looking Wash. Then it sortof evolved into this.No, I don't know who's talking in the final panel XD; 479er maybe?

Yknow? I don't like Blonde Wash but if more people drew him like this and less people drew him like a rounded babyface I would totally not mind. He actually looks like he could be soldier.

Someone on Tumblr has a headcanon that he's Asian and someone shoved hairdye/bleach into his shampoo as a prank (possibly York I guess) and they have a bunch of hilarious images to go with it. I accept that headcanon too because it means his hair is dark again later though 479 is the only one I actually headcanon as asian personally...

479er reminds me personally of a history teacher I had back in high school: she was an ex-Air Force pilot and didn't take shit from anyone. She influenced my design for 479er quite a lot XD;

That was another thing I was toying around with: making YoungWash and OldWash look distinct. It makes me happy you noticed >w<
HAHAHA. Ahyes. It's sortof a long story, but when I first drew her back in season 7 I gave her a shovel to symbolize she was the one in the desert. Then it turns out she actually wasn't the one in the desert, but I keep it around to sortof represent her going off and doing her own thing without the consent of Freelancer. Also I like shovels.

Hey, are you frustrated by the lack of apparent plot threads in Season 11 so far as much as I am? Because I have no idea what they're going to do AND IT BUGS THE CRAP OUT OF ME

Hmmm, I suppose I can't blame them too hard because it's only been one episode, and in-depth plots are usually slower-to-boil than that.
I think there's lots of potential for the season though: the food shortage, the need to leave vs. the unwillingness/inability to do so, and Wash's premonition/fear of being "found" are all interesting places the series can go once it's good and ready to. Regardless, I'm excited ^^

But all of the other seasons, even the ones that began new arcs like 6 and 9, set at least the basis of story arc from the very start of the season. I mean, yeah, it's only the first episode, but I guess I was hoping they'd progress these characters a bit instead of continuing to put them back to basics at the end of each adventure.
Project Freelancer's over, so that must mean the simulation trooper thing's done, right? Shouldn't we be looking at where they're being transferred to? Or if they're being put into actual combat or not? We may not be in this new box canyon for too long, but it would be nice if we weren't backtracking them so much.
Buuuuuut I could just be predicting what's to come. Guess we'll see.

True, but RT has been belaboring the point that this season is more akin to the BGC rather than seasons 6-10, so a "reset back to basic" is kinda implied? At least just this once? And I'd argue there are at least some progenitors of story arc already in season 11: they're stranded in a canyon, they need to get out/find help/whatever, and adventures will ensue as they try to do that. Twists/bombshells/cliffhangers likely to occur.
Seems about as much plot as any other first episode?
That's what I secretly hope they address, although I don't think that's the focus this season. Personally, I want to know what was the nature of the ship crash, who authorized their retirement, what lives were they planning to lead if they did get to where they were going? But again, I'm pretty sure that's not what RT want to get into. They needed a reason for the guys to be stuck in a canyon together, and ship-wrecked is as good as any. Now we move forward with the story and don't put too much thought into how we got here or why. No backtracking whatsoever.
They might include some exposition to fill us in, but honestly I'm not holding my breath.
