Description
I have passed this man many times, but he stays on a busy intersection, so it has been really hard to get his photo. I was surprised how cheerful he was when I asked if I could photograph him.

And may God bless you too my friend. Should you encourage beggars by giving money. Just a thought. But I don't think I could resist giving him a couple of quid. [you would say couple of dollars].

Well, I am an atheist, Ollie. But it's OK if any god wants to bless me. I also dislike the word beggar, because many people now have no other choice but to ask for donations. I would imagine that word is a matter of a cultural difference. Most of the people I know here don't even use that word. At least not the people I know

Yes I see. I am not against charity but giving money to people on the streets can encourage others to ask for money and before you know it the street is swarming with people begging.

hopefully he's not one of the scammers.,, up here they spotted a guy with a brand new
BMW... he would park it a block or so away.. and then stand on a corner in shabby clothes with a sign like that.. shame on him

Nah, I check people out before I give them anything. A couple of years ago there was a woman on that corner who made her eyes up to look bruised and had a sign saying she had been abused. A few months later- I saw her again, same old make-up, same sign & not a penny from me

Yeah, but I think there are so many really needy people now that they don't have much tolerance for fakers. I saw a couple of guys getting pretty tough on one guy. My feeling was that he probably deserved it..really..the nerve

He looks cheerful. I knew a tramp, a proper old knight of the road, who liked it and when he was offered a house, refused.

Well, I guess everyone seeks different things in life, but here homelessness is an epidemic. They just passed a bill in the city of Los Angeles declaring a state of emergency and pledging $ 100 million to help get people off the streets. This isn't just a matter of choice any more

Well we can thank our masters the slave driving banks. My blood boils at the way the worlds wealth belongs to a tiny minority.
And then there are pop stars and folk famous for being famous, have unbelievable wealth and could do so much for their fellow man... and they keep it to themselves.
