Description I found out, that Steve Irwin, the famous Crocodile Hunter died... It was yesterday (September 4) at just after 11 am... He was shooting an underwater documentary and he got to close to a stingray and it stabbed him through the heart with it's stinger, it was the only fatal stingray attack EVER caught on film. I was a huge fan of his when I was younger, I used to sneak downstairs at 12 am just to watch his show, he was amazing. I loved his strong aussie accent and his catchphrase, I feel really bad for his wife and kids, he was only 44. He even had a turtle named after him, called "Irwin's turtle" I can't remember the other name for it... I was pretty depressed about hearing what happened and I told my dad, and he's like "Oh yeah! That's the thing I wanted to tell you!" Ugh.. damn dad... forgets to tell me one of my most favourite people from TV died... So I thought that drawing a memorial picture would help, I started it around.. 11 something and finished around 1... I didn't get to submit it on the ACTUAL day.. but I'm close enough.. Anyways, the paragraph in the backround is a speech he did,

"These Hitlers use the camouflage of science to make money out of animals... So whenever they murder our animals and call it sustainable use, I'll fight it. Since when has killing a wild animal, eating it or wearing it, ever saved a species? There are people who butt out their cigarettes in gorilla-paw ashtrays, with wastepaper baskets that were once elephant feet, who have ivory ornaments… who wear cheetah fur. Don't buy these things! Then there'll be no market and the animals won't be killed. We have domesticated livestock raised for consumption and perfectly good fake leather and fur, so why must we kill wild animals to satisfy the macabre taste of some rich person?" - Steve Irwin

I thought it would be good to put that in there because it's all true!! I sure wish he didn't die, but I hope he rests in peace...

I didn't know he had a turtle named after him, but I do know he had an entire genus named after him. It's nothing extravagant, only a snail, but somehow I doubt that would have bothered him.

The snail is the Crikey Steveirwini

I like how you pictured him, with all that data in the background.
As if someone was reading it about him, on the news for instance.

Very nice of you to draw a memorial of him.

It was a tragic death.
i used to do the same thing wen i was younger too.
What out rages me is that my cousin doesn't have any compassion about his death. all he thinks is that its all his fault for going near the animal.

what else could he do? hes my # 1 idol and always be.

I'll miss the dude. D: He did do crazy things, but in the name of a purpose that should be given more attention to.

It's sad to see that not many people bothered to make a tribute for him; you did a very good job. ^^

Rest in Peace, Steve.

Yeah, well think about it. He took too many damn risks. He was acting pretty dumb so something was bound
to happen to the guy. What happened though was a freak accident with the stingray and all. Though you have
to admit, exquisite little creatures they are.

It's an online memorial I got from another mourner. I heard there was a link in the forum for pics. Maybe the family would apprecitae this.

That phrase illustrates one of the reaosns I loved Steve. He didn't just care about animals, he cared about people too. He knew that humans and nature can in fact live in harmony because we are a part of it.

It doesn't mean being a vegetarian, it means not stealing from nature. It's the difference between use and abuse.

He faced whatever troubles came towards him,
As fearless as he could be,
He fought for animals, it wasn't a whim.
But he couldn't fight the sea.

We'll miss you, my childhood idol.

I grew up watching his show on TV as well....I can't believe that he's gone...I admit I'm really upset about it and I'm sad that a legend is gone but even more sad is the fact that there are two children who will never get to know their father except through old reruns on tv and videos and that there's a mother who will spend most of the rest of her life raising two children by herself and blaming herself for her husband not being alive.

I'm still gonna do a tribute picture now, even if it is late...Steve Irwin deserves a memorial kind of picture and he deserves to be remembered. I loved his show, I loved his accent, and I loved his thoughts on animals and how they should be treated...thank you for doing this picture I'm sure that it means a lot to everyone.

I think this is an awesome tribute. I like to think that he wouldn't have wanted to die any other way. (doing what he loved.)
And I feel very bad for his family, too.
