Rabbit was always bragging about how fast he could run. Finally all the other animals had heard enough of his bragging. They got together for a secret meeting. Everyone offered their suggestions as to how to shut Rabbit up. Turtle had the best idea. He told Rabbit, "I will race you, to prove for once and for all, who is really the fastest runner. To make it fair, we will race on land, because I know you cannot swim. All that I ask is that I need seven days to train for the race. And I will choose the course of the race." Of course, Rabbit agreed to those conditions. Seven days went by. Rabbit and Turtle met at the starting point of the race course. All the other animals were there to watch the race. "Go!", someone shouted, and the race was on. The race course was a series of seven hills,and six valleys between them. Rabbit was almost at the top of the first hill. He looked back. Turtle had ran only a few feet. He looked ahead...... and to his surprise, Turtle was ahead of him, at the top of the hill. Rabbit ran faster. He ran past Turtle. He was almost at the top of the next hill. He looked back. Turtle was slowly plodding along. He looked ahead..... and to his amazement, Turtle was ahead of him, at the top of the second hill. Rabbit ran even faster. Four more hills. Four more times he looked over his shoulder. Four times he saw Turtle, slowly plodding along. And four times, to his increasing bewilderment, he met Turtle at the top of the next hill. Rabbit ran faster, faster than any rabbit has ever ran. He wasted no time in looking back. He reached the finish-line, at the top of the seventh hill. He looked around. No Turtle. He sat down on a rock to catch his breath. The rock began to move. It stuck out it's head, and yawned. "What took you so long?", Turtle said.
