Lucero is a calm and quiet man, whom under the surface, carries a heavy burden. He is consumed with guilt over the secrets of his past, and regrets some of the choices he’s made. He constantly fears he’ll be judged for his actions, and prays everyday that Milena never find the truth. He is loyal to the young woman, and therefore to her house, but still fears the conflict that running into people of his past, may cause. He is not one for small talk or idle chit-chat, making him a poor conversationalist. However, he handles work exceptionally well, tackling tasks without complaint. Although he has a dependable nature, Lucero is still extremely wary of people. There’s always hesitations, even with those he’d call acquaintances. Earning his trust takes time, as he doesn’t put much faith in others. Unless he can clearly perceive you’re not a threat, he won’t let you close- and he isn’t an easy person to fool. Due to his years spent on the streets, Lucero can be quite rough around the edges, and at times inconsiderate of the feelings of others, even when he does not mean to be. Despite his stealtiness with work, Lucero lacks the grace and etiquette needed to fit in with high-class. He’s the last person you would think of welcoming to a formal party.

Biography

Early life
Born in Reiphin, Lucero learnt early on to live by two fundamental truths. One: Money matters. Two: Your families status determines your placement in life. Raised amongst the lower class, Lucero and his older brother had to be introduced to the family business, at a young age. His father, a smith, made the boys lift heavy material, and learn how to properly sharpen weapons in high heat. Sometimes the boys would run small errands around the streets, to get some extra money, as well. Not a day went by where Lucero didn’t have to work hard, all so that they could put food into their stomachs. The older they got, the heavier the responsibilities became, as all of the family business fell onto their shoulders. They were struggling to make ends meet, at the shop alone and though Lucero continued to work hard, his brother tried to find another solution to their problems. The older sibling got involved in shady business, and in time, so too did Lucero. He needed to look out for his brother, who’d gotten in way over his head. Each day became a lesson of how life was unforgiven for those who failed to do the necessary to survive. The few relationships he had were with people that were in the same position as him: poor and resorting to crime just to get by. Some of those friendships gave him comfort, as people that had suffered like him understood what his family had been through. Unfortunately, many of the people he grew close to either went missing, or tried to leave that life behind for good.

As he grew older Lucero became used to seeing the worst in people, as he was surrounded by crooks, thieves, and lowlifes. He grew rather distant from others, and avoided getting too involved with them. The only constant in his life was his brother, that taught him everything he knew, as well as things he wish he never had to learn. His brother came up with a plan to utilize Lucero’s talent: forging pieces of jewelry and weapons to the point that it was impossible to tell the original from a copy. With his skill, Lucero found himself deep into his brother’s illegal schemes. He would make the fake valuables, so that they could either sell them as is, or sometimes even sneak into wealthy houses to replace the items with the real deal, and then sell them at the black market. Lucero was against it at the beginning, but… they were technically not harming anyone. As long as it paid the bills, he couldn’t complain. And so his life as a thief begun.

Finding light
Lucero spent most of his days working odd jobs, and then at the smithy. He had come to terms with the fact that this was his life. It was all about surviving to make it through another day. He didn’t have any goals, something to dedicate himself to, nor did he have something he truly desired... But all of that changed on one fateful day.
One morning at the market, people seemingly began moving aside and parting the way, as if there was a line the common folks should not cross. Lucero looked to the usual busy street with curiosity, and it was then that he saw her. Dressed in a white gown, and basked in the glow of warm sunlight, was a noble girl, walking through the market. She was beautiful, yes, but it was not what had caught Lucero’s attention. It was the smile she wore, as she talked to the common folk: it was genuine. He who was perceptive, could sense no malice in it, no disgust… only an honest and pure hearted smile. It was as if the young woman saw no difference between herself, and those like him. And for the first time he felt drawn to something, to someone. Alas he knew his place, and it would never be in the presence of a noble woman. Her body guards made sure of it. Those who got too close to her were shoved aside, as if they were filth. He decided to keep his distance, and go on as always. Funny how fate decided this would not the last time he would see her.

Unusual friendship
A friendship between a commoner and a noble was something Lucero believed to only be mentioned in drunken tales or old stories for kids, but then came the day Milena stumbled into the smithy, and into his life. Lucero felt as if he was living such fairytale, one too good to be true. Her innocent curiosity about his life, her honest compliments... the more they talked, the more Lucero wanted to be near her. He had fallen for her, even if he knew he could never have her, and much less get his hopes up. Even if she would not love him back, Milena gave him something that he lacked his whole life. He wanted to keep her safe, and ensure she never lost that smile. She made him want to try his best for someone else’s sake, and not only his. That is why when he learnt through his connections that she was next job on a hit list, he had to do something. Even if this meant turning his back on the only world he knew.

Life changing
The day of the assassination came, as his contacts had told him. Of course no one ever expected Lucero to jump in front of a professional assassin, much less in a desperate attempt to save a woman that was far out of his reach. A boy that was raised on the streets, should have grown to hate those much fortunate than him. It was a shock that he would risk his life, a mere thief like him. Yet he did. He betrayed so many for her, but it was all worth it. Milena was safe.

Lucero thought his tale would end there, as the man who turned his back on his people, and on his family. Milena was so distraught that day that he believed she would never come back to the market. For what he had done, he knew she was not the only one with target on her back, now. It wouldn’t be long before they found his body abandoned in a river, along with every other member of ‘The crows’. To his surprise Milena's father called on him, or more like, hired guards to take him by force. The older man payed him generously, despite Lucero’s protest that he couldn’t accept money for what he’d done. Things didn’t end there, no. The man offered him a job, one that he couldn’t refuse. Despite knowing of his questionable past, her father saw no better person to do his work, along with the benefits of serving his daughter. He was entrusted to look after her, and to be her shield. He would work as a servant of the house, and do what was told of him, without question. This was a deal with the devil, but needless to say, protecting Milena was something Lucero accepted to do without a second thought. Outside these walls he was a dead man now, and he was prepared to dedicate himself to her: her life was worth more, in his eyes. Even if he had to drown alone in the shadows of his previous life, that would never let him forget the things he’d done. For her sake he was willing to do anything. Anything.
