Keith Leary - Chemistry Chaos
--------------------------

Created alongside with his friend Pencil back in 1956 by Yuri Druzhkov, a soviet/russian children's writer, and Ivan Semenov, a famous soviet/russian illustrator, Screwbolt (named so in english adaptation; original name is 'Samodelkin', 'the one who made himself') starred in a popular soviet childrens' magazine "The funny pictures" (founded by Semenov himself) and became one of its prominent characters since. In addition, Druzhkov wrote a children's book based on both Screwbolt and Pencil, explaining their origins and backstory, in 1964 originally called "Adventures of Pencil and Screwbolt" (english adaptation translated by Fainna Glagoleva exists, I'll find the link later), that I consider 'canon' and stick to this cute little book upon exploring the characters. The book since got tons of sequels written by the original author's son, Valentin Postnikov. Ever since Screwbolt appeared in lots of animated shorts of all kinds, noticebly in series of shorts directed by Vahtang Bahtadje in 1957-1960s. My own redesign is based primarly on Semenov's original design, as he was the canonical illustrator for the character, mostly this one  . I didn't make many changes upon his look, he still reminds of the original design (I hope heh), but I surely revamped his personality drastically.

Being a robot-like guy who made himself solely on his own, Screwbolt is a natural mechanic and zealous handyman, who truly enjoys doing hard work and having something, anything to do. Tough, serious-minded and intransigent, he makes an impression of someone stern and rigid with his dislike of disorders and disobedience, but proves to be dedicated and loyal to the ones who treat him well. He is generous, helpful and honest with people whom he values enough, altough coming out rather distrustful and harsh with strangers. Screwbolt, being extremely hard-working and tireless himself, appreciates ambitious individuals of earnest views and actions: his patience and respect for any form of work make him very pleasant person to be around - once he gets to trully trust you. Although being tolerate and careful with his own words Screwbolt becomes hot-headed, bold and outright with things he dislikes, criticizing everything and ocassionally grumbling like an old displeased man. Screwbolt is thorough with his choices and precise with his plans and generally dislikes when something goes off hand or catches him off-guard. But in emergency and sudden situations he proves to be smart, careful and extremely bright. Screwbolt is that type of guy who never seems to rest, always trying to find stuff to do and disliking sitting in one place - his work and dedication to mechanics and science are his comfort, main hobbies and purpose of his life. He usually doesn't like when someone interrupts his doings or messes up but asking him anything about his favourite things or showing some appreciation to his work really make him overjoyed - although he hides his true feelings most of the time.
   Trivia:
      -he is an excellent mechanic who adores exact science, physics, transports, exploring anything new, fixing and inventing various things;
      -due to... understandable reasons, Screwbolt is afraid of water as he instantly gets rusty when touching it; because of this he genuinely doesn't get why some people would willingly go swimming or outright enjoy it;
      -he's sorely sporty and athletic, exercises every morning (with Pencil, who seems not that interested, but does it for a friend) and promotes healthy life-style any way he can;
      -doesn't have need for eating or drinking, drawing energy from artificial sources (plain sockets/rosettes usually do);
      -takes special interest in aircraft and planes;
      -although being mostly unfriendly and grumpy with others, Screwbolt has genuine and strong bond with Pencil, his closest friend. However ocassionally pranking, outwitting and quarelling with each other they show that their connection is most prominent and earnest in times of need: Screwbolt never offends or insults his friend seriously, worrying of his well-being, and always protects small naive artist from whatever trouble's happening. And surely doesn't approve Pencil's eating ice-cream. Because of the reasons.
