I've been waiting for the tides to change

It gets hard to take these days

The warm autumn winds ruffled her fur stronger and more pronounced with each bouncy step. Lifting her long muzzle in its direction, Illsa imagined she could already pick up the various but familiar scents of her home. The mountain pine, the moisture of rivers, the dewy grass, the salty breeze from the sea. Fresh and sharp, it made her scrunch her nose in a delightful anticipation - of seeing the gorgeous peaks of the Spires, the greenery of Misthelm Watch, the trodden pathways to Hearthfell.

"Come along, we are getting close!" she ushered her companions to pick up their speed and bounced to an energetic trot, tall grass and last flowers of the season brushing against her long legs as she went on. The unclaimed lands quickly gave in to the Southern wild, which then cleared a way for the travelling wolves right through the vast fields of Fellfang. The winds carried her home, just like she had promised her loved ones before she left. She imagined what they would have been doing when she stumbled upon them: would they have been on duties, who would meet her first, how would they react to her return?
Suddenly, a particular whiff in the air made her slow in her tracks; taking it in, her ears perked and a widening smile graced her expression. It was unmistakable and so, so very welcoming.
A scent of fresh rain.
It sent shivers of excitement running down her back.
"Raviv!"

Because when I'm in a room with you
That missing piece is found
You know when you're by my side, darling
Nothing can bring us down
~
She broke into a gallop, leaving her companions far behind as she crossed the clearing, looking every bit a graceful bird in flight - minus the wings. Only looking graceful wasn't any of her concern at the sight of her dear friend happening to be on a stroll (or on a hunt? Didn't matter now!); eyes burning with joy and tongue hanging out, Illsa run towards him like a wild river ran into the ocean. Without restrictions or stopping.
"Rav-i-i-v!" she squealed happily, hardly slowing down while dancing circles around the young hunter, who seemed to greet her with the same giddy excitement. Only a few rapid heartbeats later did they collapse into each other, rolling in the grass and giggling like carefree pups - and perhaps they were, in their hearts.
"I'm home," the she-wolf breathed in a tight loving embrace.
And she truly was.
