Description
Spring break...The time when beaches were filled with scantly clad girls and guys, music filled the air...and the occasional beach ball would be passed around while a random band played on the stage near the water. A time when clubs were filled with half drunk college kids, grinding against each other and stumbling out half drunk and laughing their asses off into the street, where an uber or taxi would scoot them off back home. A spring break that Suri had been planning for years now...being that this would have been her first as a senior. Her first before she ran off to college and finally escaped this wretched town which she had been trapped in since birth.A spring break that...because of her stupid sister, Lyf, she wouldn't get to even participate in. Spring break of her senior year...she had planned for this to be her biggest fling thus far. She'd wanted to leave this town with a bang...and spring break had been when she planned to do it. Her mother, however, had made other plans. Just one week before spring break her mother had asked her to take over the little grocery store her family owned for break. It seemed her mother and father had plans of their own, still somewhat distraught over the disappearance of Suri's sister, Lyf, the two had planned to extend their search.
"It's been two freaking years..." Suri muttered to herself. "I honestly hope she's dead and rotting in a ditch somewhere..." She growled to herself. She, of course, couldn't say such things to her mother and father. She'd learned early on not to press those buttons. Even though Suri was the favorite, Lyf was still their child...Suri, on the other hand, absolutely hated Lyf. Aside from the occasional joy she received from torturing her sister and abusing her at school, she hated the wretched girl with every fiber of her being. It was so much better that she was gone...at least...it was. Until this moment. If Lyf was here. Suri could have pressured her into taking her spot at the store and Suri could have gone out to party.
No amount of arguing had saved Suri from her plight. Not the invitation to hire temp help, a friend, or anything else. Her parents had promised to pay Suri, but she didn't care. She just wanted to party. So...as she waved off her parents with promises to don the apron and tend to the store, in the back of her mind she held no actual intention to do so. What would her parents do? Scold her? Subtract some of her allowance? Screw them...once she left for college she'd made a promise to never come back to this shit hole town. She'd leave it...and them...far behind her. She could just tell everyone they'd died or something.
"Tch." Suri turned before the car was even out of sight, not bothering to watch her parents drive away. She entered the store, made her way to the back and up the steps to where their home was located above their store. She collected the suitcase which she had stashed in her closet, already packed and ready for spring vacation. Her phone and a few other things were collected and she quickly dialed up one of her girlfriends. "Heyo, I'll meet you at the hotel at the planned time." The friend, on the other end, seemed a bit surprised. "Your parents are letting you go?" She questioned. "Pfft...they're already gone...searching for Lyf again. They can't stop me." The girl on the other end laughed. A fake, loud, obnoxious laugh that caused Suri's ears to lower and a frown to etch over her maw. She hung up before anything else could be said. "God, I hate this town..."
She made one more check to ensure she had everything before heading down to her jeep. The store was locked and closed up, a note placed on the window that said 'Closed for spring break.' The only indication that there would be no one here come tomorrow. She placed her things inside the back of her jeep, removed the top so that she could enjoy the warm spring sunshine. Oh yes...this was going to be good. Climbing in her jeep, she gave the store a middle finger salute and quickly sped off down the street. Goodbye store...Hello beach....
