Description This morning at Hamburg's harbour. Two binmen on a break enjoying the sun. Photo taken from inside of an office building.

E D I T : I changed the title, because I remembered that the workers in the harbour wear similar work clothes as the binmen in Germany.

As I said before, I don't think it's perfect (yet), but it has a few good aspects, which I like of course, too. I would have loved to catch a funny moment or a strange happening or something. Something that makes you smile, when you look at a picture.

Yes, when taking a series of shots I also felt like the scenery and light was very special. You don't get this very often all at the same time. Thanks for leaving your opinion!

Lovely shot Apart from the contrast between the strict grid of the windows and the lounging fellows outside, I really dig that the floor gives a slanted reflection of it all.

k-tones In reply to RosaLynx [2010-10-24 21:38:31 +0000 UTC]

You mean you find the two chaps too dark I guess? Well, I'm no friend of HDR or DRI (Ok, I could get into the matter and do it properly, but I can't and have no ambition to do so so far) as 99% of the pictures look too tone mapped. The dynamic range isn't too shabby and I could probably have pushed the darker parts a little more, but I wanted to keep it a bit more 'natural' if you could say so. If I misunderstood you please correct me. Thank you for commenting and sharing your thoughts!

RosaLynx In reply to k-tones [2010-10-25 08:14:58 +0000 UTC]

I realize I wrote in a completely crappy manner above

What I meant to say was this:
1) I adore this entire shot, and
2) My favourite parts are the dark pattern of the grid, the chaps outside, and the reflection of this in the floor.

So, yeah...sorry 'bout the confusion

k-tones In reply to RosaLynx [2010-10-25 10:33:51 +0000 UTC]

Ok, fair enough. And don't worry about misunderstandings. English is not my native language, too.

So, thank you for all the praise about the picture. I appreciate it a lot!

What a shot! I adore the (probably morning) light coming inside the building. The feeling rested like those two guys watching the harbour scenery. Nicely done!

k-tones In reply to Ojkuj [2010-10-24 21:34:58 +0000 UTC]

You are right. It was late morning (time's mentioned in the Exifs) and a little headlight from the left. I actually passed the two guys and when I saw them standing there I actually ran to the other side of the building into the lobby to catch them. I was lucky their break took a little longer than only two minutes

really good to see everything looking so good.. why do I say that because I have just finished watching Living With The Enemy which is a documentary about the immediate post war period in Germany and how hard it was... my father took pictures from his Halifax bomber at the end of the war that was an immediate connection with the destruction but it was just shocking what those poor people who had survived (particularly those in East Germany) had to go through to survive..

k-tones In reply to Rojpix [2010-10-21 06:34:11 +0000 UTC]

Hi,

You are right. Being a German and also being interested a bit in history (especially WW2 as we ought to) you are right. However, mentioning that we should not forget what other people and countries experienced by WW2 caused by the Germans (actually by an Austrian on top). I reckon by saying "especially in East Germany" you partly revert to the bombing of Dresden, which was an act of vengance and is in many eyes as condemning as the brutal acts of the German army at the time. Anyway, in the picture you see Hamburg's harbour, which was bombed severly as well as a lot of war industry was situated there as far as I know. I think what is most important about all that disasterous history is that a big part of the world has learnt from it (hopefully).

k-tones In reply to Rojpix [2010-10-22 12:07:32 +0000 UTC]

Well, that is a bit black and white for my liking. If the 'yanks' wouldn't have entered WW2 the world may look different today. Have you read "Fatherland" by Robert Harris? If not, I recommend it strongly!

OK will google it and I guess my comments on the yanks was really meant more so in a contemporary context
