I use a very diffuse brush, mixed with the circular gradient. I usually use a lot of them in separate layers, some of them in normal fusion mode and others in overlay and multiply. I use a blue colour for them when I use overlay and multiply and try to be subtle, I prefer to put a lot of them with little opacity than one with the opacity 100%. Also, the textures I use on the top of the drawing make the gradients look less digital.
