After Terra Venture got lost, NASADA started to freak out, sending recon ships in either direction around our solar system, but for a few months never got any info on them.

With the Lightspeed Project completed for the most part, the first five members of the team being already selected, having chosen Mariner Bay as their HQ and Captain William Mitchell to be the mentor/boss of the first team completely created by a human organization, Trini decided her presence was not essential anymore. She offered herself to go to Aquitar and meet with the rangers on that planet, their technology would help them make contact with Terra Venture wherever it was, or, at the very least, make contact with Andros' team who could help in the search of the colony.

Before leaving, Trini appointed Angela Fairweather who by now had been her second in command in the development of the ranger powers and technology, as the head scientist of the Lightspeed Project, that way even with her out of the planet they would have someone who knew everything about the project and that they could rely on.

A couple months after arriving at Aquitar, Trini learnt from the Space Rangers the fate of Terra Venture, how it had appeared on a distant part of the Galaxy, but while having to face Scorpius minions, they had their own Power Rangers to protect them, rangers strong enough to have defeated the Psycho Rangers, so they were in good hands. Trini passed down the information to NASADA which ceased the search teams deployment, and while not happy with the colony being lost, they agreed having their own Power Rangers meant they were well protected, so they decided to focus all of their efforts on completing the Lightspeed Project.

Before she could return to Earth though, Billy asked Trini to stay some more time at Aquitar, they would really appreciate their help on the project he and Cestro had been working on, the proto morphers. Trini agrees to stay, after what happened the previous year with the United Alliance of Evil and how they were overwhelmed on Earth, having more than one team of Rangers ready to fight didn't seem like a bad idea.

With Trini's help, the Proto Morpher Project advanced faster, and in less than a year, they had been able to successfully stabilize a connection to the Ninja, Zeo and Turbo Powers. But still, the problem of the unstable connection remained to which Trini suggested using something akin to the Phantom Ranger Billy created. During their fights, she noticed the Phantom Ranger fought quite similar to Billy, and he explained he created him using his own memories as a base. Knowing this, she suggested creating avatars like those for each ranger team, they would house the conscience or memories of past rangers, namely those who either changed powers or have died, and they would have permanent access to that particular set of powers. Billy and Cestro agreed that it would get rid of the problem of needing to be in the vicinity of another ranger team to access any set of powers so the preparations started to move on that direction.

Considering that if they succeeded, this would mean a huge amount of powers gathered on a single place, or at least, on a single person, was not that great of an idea, if anyone ever learned they had all of these Ranger Powers so close together, they could be stolen, Cestro suggested assigning a sort of guardian for each power set. A Ranger who had been part of that team that could be trusted with them once the project was completed. Billy and Trini agreed, and decided on assigning Jason as the guardians of their original powers, he and Kimberly were together now and it would be a nice wedding gift to present them with a way to access their original Ranger powers again. Billy would keep his Triceratops power since he had grown attached to them tho, and they would use the Phantom Bodies for Trini's and Zack's power since Zack had passed away and Trini agreed to become the guardian of the Turbo Powers, the rest of her team were now Space Rangers and Tommy would be the guardian of the Zeo powers. As for the Thunder Powers, Adam proved to be just a great a ranger as ever, and using his powers in spite of them threatening his life, proved he would protect them no matter what, so they chose him. For the Ninja Powers they chose Rocky since he continued teaching martial arts at his Dojo while Aisha had become a renowned veterinarian and which left her with little time to be contacted.

After the Turbo Morpher was completed Trini and Billy decided to return home for Jason and Kimberly's wedding, taking her new Turbo Morpher with her as well as the new morphers for Tommy, Kat, Adam, Rocky, Aisha and the ones meant as a gift for Jason and Kimberly. They knew they would meet their friends at the wedding so that would be a good place to give them the good news but warning them not to use them unless an active team, one who had not lost their original connection to the morphing grid was present, else they would get harmed, something Adam knew all too well.
