Description Because political correctness is for squares.

Okay, this comic is based on a semi-real event that happened to me yesterday. I did make a holiday card for a soldier (), and the guy at the table did ask me to be politically correct in my message. I told him that I wasn't a fan of political correctness (in a different way from the me in the comic), and I ended up writing a quasi-politically (in)correct message. I liked the message, and I'm 95% sure that the soldier who receives my card will like it too. It's just the PC police who wouldn't like it.

For those who do not know what political correctness is, PC is a term applied to language, ideas, policies, or behavior seen as seeking to minimize offense to gender, racial, cultural, religious (or anti-religious), disabled, aged or other identity groups. Some examples of political correctness include referring to starving people in Zimbabwe as "food insecure," calling terrorists "misguided criminals," requiring public property to be either religious holiday neutral or represent all major holidays, saying "police officer" instead of "policeman," and changing the song "Baa Baa Black Sheep" to "Baa Baa Rainbow Sheep." I kid you not, these are real examples that have actually been used.

I get that political correctness is supposed to help eliminate exclusiveness and offensiveness of language, and it would be nice if that were possible. But it is only an unrealistic, utopian dream. Language will always offend someone and exclude someone, no matter how you use it. Even the most politically correct situation will offend at least one person. In the end, political correctness is an unnecessary form of censorship, infringing on the freedom of speech. It is rather comparable to Newspeak from 1984. Why can't people just get thicker skins, instead of getting offended when someone says "God bless you"?

As for the art, I tried drawing myself again, but the face looks off. It doesn't exactly look like me. Oh well, it was just a quick pencil sketch anyway. Proportions are off, and I ended up shorter than I really am. :/

LOL Is it just me, or would it really matter to someone who is overseas with a gun how you say happy holidays? I wouldn't think so, but I guess some people never knew the idea of "the thought that counts". I wonder if they would have been offended if you would have said thank you as well lol.

In my experience, the "I'm too cool for political correctness" people are the first to throw a fit when you offend them.

This is cute, though. Nice comeback!

"Don't be a retard!" Don't say that! <- the ..um.. handicapped

See what I mean? -.-

Thank you! I'm so sick of being told, 'No you can't say Merry Christmas! It will offend people!' Please, I would offend them even more if I swore at them...no wait that's acceptable nowadays too since even little five year olds will tell you to f-off.

I think it was an encouragement in itself that you were sending a card to our troops, people's two-faced atitude about our soilders also bothers me, but I'm getting off topic. So the PC Police should just mind their own bees wax Xp

Baa Baa Rainbow sheep? That's quite interesting. Even though I'm not particularly politically correct. Politically correctness seems a bit too paranoid. I won't throw a tantrum if I get offended, and surprisingly a NUMBER of people I know won't, either(and I know a diverse group of people, going to an international school and all. So we have a drop of everything from all around the world).

Amen to that!
Many of the PC comments people make just makes me laugh.
For example, saying someone is "mentally challenged" instead of calling them stupid.
Honestly, saying things politically correct makes it sound worse.
That's just my opinion though.

Archie Bunker is the very definition of political correctness. ...Or was in political incorrectness...I can't remember. ><

Seriously though, sometimes this political correctness thing goes a bit too far. Thanks to it, there are so many restrictions along Christmas and such, and that's really annoying. Why can't we just stick to some regular things and not have to be so paranoid every five minutes? Any joke I say involving a certain culture is just in good fun, never in any sort of offense.

At least you draw yourself better than I draw myself! I look like a freaking weirdo in my self-portraits.

That really happened? Wow that's kinda...

PC is just stupid, like you said there will always be one person (or a few) that will be offended. But hey, that's just life! I see things that offend me and I don't go running around throwing a tantrum about it

But I still can't believe that this event took place D:

I tend to go back and forth on how PC someone should be, but I love your take on it. And "food insecure?" Come on, that's just too much PC! It's almost more insulting than the original phrases, since to me it implies "You can't handle the real truth, your mind is too delicate."

The rainbow sheep just made me laugh.

Oh lordy. I get how they're trying to be non-offensive and everything, but political correctness isn't really politeness, either. It's so stupid. You can't say ANYTHING anymore without getting jumped on by somebody calling you a Nazi or something, and if anything's politically incorrect, THAT is.

Santa can't say "ho ho ho" anymore, either. What a world we live in....
