I love the colours you chose for this piece.
I have found that a nice contrast is achieved when light and dark of the background is opposite to the lighting on the model.

I find that I prefer to have my backgrounds lighting reflect what is going on on the model and create contrast with color instead. But there are always exceptions to the rules
