I see your point! This line pretty much sounds
like something Ita-chan indeed would say.
But in this case, it´s Kakashi, who is saying it.
Although Itachi seem distant towards people,
I think he has that weak-spot, that he believes just too easily
in people who he thinks of as good people with good intentions.
And thus can be easily fooled.

If I go with Lufthansa or any other, I´d have to wait a whole day

I don´t think there is more than the literal meaning to the quote...mmmm...
It´s like, even if you have the Sharingan,
which is able to make differentiate between genjutsu and reality and you count on this ability...
And even genjutsu can be painful and even leave a mark in your mind,
lies set up by people´s actions and words leave a deep scar.
Lies can´t be easily made out, not even with this dôjutsu.
Especially if you never tried to do so,
because the words which ended up as lies were the most kind ones you ever recieved. That kind of feeling, maybe xD?
