Description
This was a pitch for an idea which didn't really go anywhere, as one of several attempts to flesh out our overall setting. In effect, it was intended largely to help give a greater sense of being lived-in, and to offer up more than just governments, the underworld, Mandalorians, the military, and Force users as part of the wider setting. This is sadly built upon Disney's setting, but it was largely made to actually try and build on a few concepts that they had introduced and done nothing with, along with a personal fascination. You see, I have no problem with the Sith and Jedi being the major Force using factions in the setting. I tend to roll my eyes at those claiming that the Jedi "hoard the light side" and that "killing the Jedi is the only way to democratise the Force" due to the sheer stupidity of those statements. However, offering up a multitude of minor and moderate factions throughout the galaxy helps to further flesh it out and give it a greater sense of vastness. It's one thing I personally liked about Fate of the Jedi, and with Disney you have elements like the Church of the Force. So, I went with the latter and attempted to build from there. The Riven Brethren really are just a general outline here more than anything else, with heavy influences from Dune and the Foundation series. While monastic despite their nomadic nature, they integrate a few key concepts that I have seen before that work well within the Star Wars setting. The more tangible quality of faith is a big one, of course, and the stark contrast between high tech creations and feudal means without going into the usual extremes that Warhammer or Dune ever do. It's never going to be used now, but that doesn't mean I won't share it on here, or attempt to use its concepts again in the future.
You can see more stories at Clan Odan-Urr in the Dark Jedi Brotherhood , which allows its members a good deal of leeway in crafting individual tales while following larger organisation-wide storylines.
