Description
I completed this color pencil step by step or tutorial of my artwork "Wild Rose" back in 2006, surprisingly i received a lot of compliments over the years and decided to share it on DA tooSince then my color pencils technics have grown and changed a lot but a lot of the basics remain the same.
Back then i loved using my pastels with my color pencils now i tend to use watercolor or acrylics .
I also remember how much i disliked using color pencils at the beginning but slowly got better and now love using them.
You can view bigger pics of the tutorial on my website

You can view the finished artwork here at my DA gallery

Hope you enjoy the tutorial

So much detail! It's great seeing how the finished product evolves. Personally, I love how it looks in step 6--the washed/faded effect makes the fairy look like a dream or a reflection. But the final image is also gorgeous.
By the way, I like your new avatar!

thank YOU maria i love strathmore and their vellum paper is so good i like it more than their smooth bristol, i only use smooth for close up portraits and switched to canson for those.

Yeah, smooth is too... smooth. I can't get darker shades on it. But it's good for mixed media tho'!

How do you transfer your sketch to the final paper? I would imagine either by some type of printing (carbon paper?) or light-board tracing? It's nice to see how the magic is worked!

Katerina-Art In reply to westernman [2009-01-16 13:02:48 +0000 UTC]
thank you harold so much
I never use carbon paper i did the mistake of using it once and got smudges all over the paper not only that it's hard to erase any lines if you want to fix any anatomy problems.I wouldn't recommend it.
What i did was buy a light box and trace my final sketch to my good working surface that way, before that i used to use my window tape my sketch and carefully place my good paper over it, or use my tv set on a dead channel, anything that reflects light will work, but i decided to invest on a affordable light box i think i only paid like 70.00 micheal's art craft store have these light boxes i would recommend it for all artists

Thank you Katerina! I recently invested in a smaller light box for only about $40 from Hobby Lobby. In the past, I've used "trace-printing" with graphite on the back of the original, carbon paper, and the window and tv. method.
