Description
Another image for my card design project with @tastyminstrel! I had fun with the scales on these guys.Β Drawing reptiles is always an exciting challenge because of all the little details.Β

While i do appreciate your...adventurous ways with colours, i yet have to say that the anatomy of these snakes is rather poor. The scales especially caught my eye - the way they're applicated (rather randomly all over the body, with no direction, rhyme or reason; some being small, other larger, varying all the way through in size and shape) is very much reminiscent of what you'd perhaps see in various lizards, but with snakes, this doesn't work (though, no shame on that. Years before i went knee-deep into studying snake anatomy i also practically had no idea how the scaling of snakes works and what the hell i was doing. Scales themselves can be tricky indeed; they're mostly a plus when you are going for something realistic, but ironically, they can also take away a lot (not to mention the time they consume) and even "work against" what you are going for; thus, it's sometimes worth of thinking whether one should leave them out almost completely, with only adding them on parts where they make sense like head and ventrals).
Also, the head of the Green Tree Python (which is what i think you were going for on this one) doesn't work - at all. I can see what you were going for, i can see that you tried to fit in some perspective, but the way it turned out makes me rather think of what you'd see in vipers - short, compressed snout and the wrong position of the eyes doesn't help there either.
Going through your gallery, i think you should pay more attention to animal anatomy in general. The artistic sense is clearly there, but i see anatomical problems (some little and forgivable, some embarassingly on screen) almost everywhere. Good luck with that and keep it up!

Those scales are AWESOME, my favorite part is the pattern on the brown snake and the way it fades. They kind of look like the ying yang symbol if you look at the poses.

I did some sort of spiritual animal finding quiz....and I got a snake. Not that the symbolism was anything bad...it's just that I was surprised to have a reptile as a spiritual animal. (mind you I did the game more six times, and I got snake twice)Β
