So I've done the Literature and Photography thing, today I thought I'd try my hand at Traditional Drawing
And this is what happened 
Critique me people!
30 mins pencil sketch - make of pencil - mechanical clicky clicky

It looks good ^^ especially for the first time and for 30 minutes.
The kitty looks very cute and the dogs looks suprised, XD. It's goes very well together.
I agree that practising a lot makes art.

I wish I could draw realistic animals or humans. (maybe I should give it a try too)

It wasn't that difficult, and although they don't look realistic, I think the cat maanged a bit of surprised look that I wanted

So cute! I can't really critique since i am no good at drawing but let me say , when I attempted a cat and dog , it looked like an alien and a pile of goo... so your good

The background would look good with some shading or something else happening.
A window would perhaps go well behind it as it's a close up.
For a first attempt this is pretty good.

If you want to go really crazy use your opposite hand.
Art teachers always like to throw that in at some point during the first couple of months so be warned

You should definately keep doing more, Kaz.
I always believe 90% of what makes 'great' art is how far we are prepared to look at the world differently. Not how good a draughtsman we are! You already look at the world in a unique way. The rest is just technique. Enjoy messing with the medium just as you would with photography. You'll be surprised, I'm sure!
And by the way, I like it!

It's therapeutic, most definitely, I accepted that I couldn't draw, therefore mucking around and creating this was harmless. Whereas with photography...if I do bad I can compare it to when I did not so bad...and then feel bad for doing bad rather than not not doing bad...follow me?

You might not think you can draw, but you can create! You don't need to be able to draw to create and sometimes you don't even need to think to draw...so thinking about it...how come we can create a drawing? Do you follow me? I'm definately speaking twaddle now, but if I've got you half as confused as I am, then it's a lot clearer to me!

I love the title. If you read up on how we interpret what we see - you'll probably start drawing better instantly (drawing shapes instead of the symbols representing eyes/nose/etc. in our head). Its a cute pic though, the kitten looks gangsta, the lion looks like he has an Italian hair cut

I bet you'll end up as one of those adults that looks at a kids drawing and goes, 'Oh yes that's a lovely boat!'

nah I'd just tell the kid "Man, you've got no potential son...that looks horrible" then nod ominously - and console him as he cries "people like you aren't meant to be artists, its alright"
But honestly - it just takes a few realizations about our perception of reality, and you'll be drawing just fine. If you look at some of Van Gogh start up work - it was horrid (and he started painting in his 20's I think). So you could well be on your way to discovering a new talent if you work at it.

I used to go around doing that in my younger days - but my conscious and the kids large/round (and often drunk) parents tended to catch up to me eventually

yup I'm pushing the envelope with obscenities and offensiveness much like they do on TV - the only difference is the stuff I say is funny only because its true ( I can type 90wpm with my feet)
