Yes, the 2 species are related but Attacus atlas is much larger than Samia cynthia.

Mhhh interesting, Wikipedia says that the Attacus atlas has a  span of up to ~25cm, whereas the Samia cynthia has only a span of up to ~12cm. But this guy here was at least ~20cm (I would say) ...
