Description
I've been working on this for months, and I think it just about touched the 100 hour mark. Whenever I see people here on DA that go "OMG THIS TOOK 20 HOURS SO LONG" over their art I secretly chuckle.Three (or six, depending on your interpretation) enigmatic white princes share a cautious understanding with suspicious glances. These are tree stags and three rats, for clarification.
8x14 on a 10x16 panel. Scratchboard and watercolor.
edit: WOW a DD! Thanks guys!
note: To those wondering how this could have taken 100 hours of work. My main tools for this were an etching needle, a sharpened leather sewing needle, and fiberglass on a scratchboard panel. I partially carve out the image in black and white, and then I work in progressing stages of watercolor where I lay down one color and partially pull it away using the tools. Repeat again and again. This method is time consuming but worth it.

I can't understand why people are being so harsh about you stating how long this piece took for you to finish. I think it's a beautiful, well detailed piece. As someone who carves stamps, I can't imagine the meticulous detail and planning this must have taken you! The lines are so clean, it's amazing.
Still, to those who want to balk at you taking your time, I say this. The Mona Lisa took over four years to paint, animated movies such as Tangled spend near a decade in the making. Just because the world has things like the internet and fast food corporations so that we have become impatient with the world around us doesn't mean that you should disrespect the time it takes for many to work in the traditional arts. Could it have taken someone else less time? Possibly. Does it matter? No. It's your piece, from your heart, and it's beautiful.

I think this is amazing, firstly. But I don't get how you spent 100 hours on it. I've done scratchboard before, so I understand the painstaking work you have here.. every little fine detail.. but 100 hours? Not sure what you were doing for so long. Grats on the DD, very well deserved.

One: I'm a slower than average worker who learned art later in life. Two: I add multiple layers of color, and cut away parts of each layer when I carve it to give a shimmering effect when viewed in person. I am essentially working in a glazing technique for scratchboard. Each layer of color is added at one time, not unlike a printmaker would work. Therefore, it takes multiple sketches in multiple layers and crazy amounts of planning to do what I do, so when I see people like you commenting "heh, how could this take so much work", I kind of get insulted.

Wasn't mean as an insult, just that I've done similar stuff, including the watercolor part. o.O Mostly confusion. Again, great work.

I can't fathom even working in that method, let alone for that long. @__@ At first glance I thought this was just a traditional ink sketch, so I'm so glad I clicked into it.
Very impressive work.

I absolutely love it. I especially like the outline of the stags and the attention and detail on the fur. The expressions on their faces and the antlers are wonderful, and their legs give them a look of graceful beauty, as though they're leaping into the air in great bounds and gliding, almost weightless.
The rats I like as well, especially the one on the left, I like how he is positioned on the knee and looking back.
Great work and a very deserving DD.
