CharmysTokos
Sakari did not realize that her nervousness was obvious, though it was not something that was easy to hide in the first place. She offered a shy smile when she actually realized Dahlia had noticed. Charmeine and Sakari both listened closely as the tokota that they would be looking for was described to them. Charmeine gave a nod of her head before responding out loud. “Okay, got it; normal mane that’s grey in color, dark brown and has accents,” she repeated just to confirm that she had gotten it all correctly. He sounded easy enough to spot, right?
Sakari turned her timid gaze toward Queen when she spoke in a huff, though made sure that she avoided making any sort of eye contact. Charmeine turned her attention from Queen to Damien when he spoke. She could not help but laugh a little. “I have onr that is not a loaner and is like that,” she replied, issuing another slight laugh. “I bought her from a friend a few weeks ago and she has made no effort to become part of the pack. Getting her to do much of anything is tough,” she added. Getting Leilani to do much of anything was like pulling teeth from a wall!
Charmeine gently nudged Sakari forward when the others began to move. A soft purr came from the marked tundra female. The bond between Charmeine and Sakari was undeniable. Sakari had been Charmeine’s very first tokota, had been her only tokota for quite a while, which meant that they had had a lot of one on one time. “So… Why are you looking for, oh what was his name again… Lutoro? Has he taken off like this before? Does he have any specific favorite places to go?” Charmeine asked a seemingly flood of questions. “Perhaps he has a secret girlfriend,” Sakari quietly chimed in.

“Well, that’s part of what has us so worried,” Dahlia replied, looking at Sakari and Charmeine. “He has never done anything like this. Usually he spends all of his time keeping track of the pack, so for him to turn up missing is quite out of character.” While she spoke, the pied began walking up the path again, knowing that they could talk all day, but nothing would get done if they didn’t start moving. “I know he enjoys when we go as a pack to the waterfall, but I have no idea why he would go there all by himself.”
Queen rolled her eyes as Charmeine spoke about Leilani. “I wouldn’t be too pleased if my handler sold me off like common livestock either! Whatever happened to loyalty to your pack? Ever since ‘handlers’ showed up and took over as the real alphas of our Tokota packs, things have never been the same.” The dire grumbled, but she was secretly glad that they had finally started walking again. Perhaps if they walked, everyone would stop talking and she could have a little peace and quiet!
However, peace and quiet were hard to come by when Gwyllgi was around. Not only did she feel the need to sniff everything that seemed even remotely interesting to her puppy mind, but she also had to roll in every patch of dirt or mud, no matter how small it may be. Damien growled and tossed clumps of dirt in her direction, which exploded into dust on impact with her fur. They were soft enough that they merely made Gwyllgi laugh whenever they made contact and caused a cloud. This only made Damien grumpier, and he joined Queen in the wish that they could just find the missing Lutoro and get out of here already.

Sakari began to move forward again without prompting from Charmeine when Dahlia began to walk. Both Charmeine and Sakari were listening to every word being spoken. “Maybe we should check there first then?” Sakari suggested, though it came out more as a question than anything. Sakari cast a sideways glance to Dahlia to see if the pied female was at least considering the suggestion of checking at the waterfall first before wandering all over the area trying to find Lutoro. It just seemed to make the most sense to the marked tundra because if they wandered all over before going to check at the waterfall and that was where they ended up finding him, they’ll have wasted a whole lot of time and energy.
Charmeine glanced toward Queen when she spoke. A slight frown formed on her face as she listened to the grumbling dire. “That may be so,” Charmeine began to respond. “But Leilani is now in a good home. I bought her as a gift for my girlfriend. My girlfriend and her pack recently moved to my place, so Leilani is on my property. If my girlfriend ever decides to leave, Leilani will remain at my place because passing her around like a piece of trash is no way to treat her, or any tokota for that matter. I treat my tokotas better than that. The only time i sell a tokota is if it’s one of the puppies that I’ve bred and I’m very picky about who I sell to and what type of home my puppies go to.” Charmeine was quite protective of her pack as a whole and with Kacela having recently moved in, Charmeine found herself feeling protective of Kacela’s tokotas as well.

“Yes, that’s where we are headed,” Dahlia replied. She turned to see if Queen was keeping up, and luckily the Dire seemed to have decided that she had nothing better to do at this point. Dahlia continued on in silence, following the sound of the river that rushed past just a few yards away from the path. “You know, if we weren’t out here on a rescue mission, I would be perfectly content to jump in there and catch a few fish. The weather is nearly perfect, don’t you agree? I bet those fish are just bobbing around right below the surface, getting some sun and waiting for the dragonflies to light upon the water.” She silently cursed Lutoro, who should honestly have been with them right now instead of coming up missing.
Queen snorted and rolled her eyes at Charmeine and Sakari. “However you want to justify it to yourself. It has no bearing on me, anyway.” The grouchy Dire fell into her own silence, trying to remind herself that they were just a few explorations away from allowing her to return to her own pack and never return. Sure, her handler had intended for her to gain experience while she was out here, but she couldn’t help but feel that the only experience she was gaining was practice dealing with completely useless creatures.

Sakari gave a faint smile to Dahlia when she confirmed that was where they were headed to check first. Both Charmeine and Sakai had fallen silent for a while they ride beside the others. Sakari twisted her ears a little when Dahlia began to speak again, listening to every word the other female had to say, nodding every so often. “Oh yes,” Sakari began to respond to Dahlia. “Hopping into the water right now would be great, but I don't think Charmeine would be too happy with me,” she added with a soft chuckle. “Yeah, I would prefer to not be on your back first,” Charmeine chimed in.
When Queen’s grumpy voice cut in, Sakari slicked her ears against her head. “You’re right,” Charmeine spoke up before Sakari could say anything. “It is no concern of yours,” she added, frowning a little. Sakari glanced sideways at Dahlia for a brief moment before returning her gaze forward. “Is she always that… opinionated?” Sakari asked before she could stop herself. Charmeine snickered but remained silent, for the moment.
“Charmeine takes such great care of us,” Sakari found herself continuing. “She’s my first owner and I am glad of that. I know I won't be passed from home to home like some of the others she has taken in were before she came into their lives.” A gentle sigh escaped from Sakari. A butterfly flew in front of her nose and she blew out gently to watch the winged insect flutter against her breath.

“Unfortunately, yes,” Damien grumbled, shifting in his seat atop Dahlia. “I still don’t know why Matthias isn’t out finding his own mutt. How is any of this my problem? Gwyllgi, she’s mine. I’m happy to take care of her. But the rest of these giant buckets of fur? They could all disappear for all I care.” Dahlia flicked her ears, annoyed, and bucked around a little to give Damien a good shake up.
Queen snorted. “We feel the same way about you, human. At least the other human seems to be halfway decent at life. You, however, are practically unbearable.” The dire huffed and carried along, and again Dahlia rolled her eyes. How long were they going to have to carry on with this mess? The only one who seemed completely unfazed by the mash up of drama in the pack was Gwyllgi, who had managed to find a butterfly to catch her interest. She chased it right off the trail and ended up sliding down the short hill into a muddy bog. “Look where you’re going, you pathetic pup!” Queen growled down after her.
Damien steered Dahlia over to the edge of the hill and looked down to see if his puppy was okay. She seemed perfectly content rolling around in the bog weeds and swamp grass. “Gwyllgi, you’re going to need like five baths when we get home,” Damien howled, waving his arms in the air. “Get back up here!” He looked to Charmeine and sighed, his brain finally checking in and reminding him that they had been embarrassing themselves in front of the company. The handler jumped down from his saddle and removed a coiled leash from the saddle bag before heading down the hill to fetch Gwyllgi.
Dahlia turned to Sakari and sighed. “Sorry you have to see all of this. I promise we aren’t always this dysfunctional…” The pied flicked her ear in annoyance and looked down over the hill to see that Damien had lost his footing and ended up on his back in the mud. She snorted before catching herself and putting back on a professional face. “He kind of deserved that,” she said in a carefully flat tone, though her eyes still danced with merriment.

Charmeine turned her head toward Damien when he began to answer her question. “So the one we’re out searching for doesn’t belong to you either?” the woman asked, sounding as curious as she felt. Sakari had tilted her head slightly to the side as she listened. Sakari found it curious that Dahlia was even letting Damien ride her if she did not belong to him. She could not imagine allowing anyone other than Charmeine upon her back. Sakari found herself hoping, a lot, that Charmeine would never make her accept another rider to even sit on her much less ride her for any length of time. “Don’t worry, Sakari. I won’t let anyone else ride you,” Charmeine murmured to her beloved tokota almost as if she had been able to read Sakari’s mind.
“You shouldn’t talk to them like that,” Sakari objected to the other rider insulting the other tokotas. “You never know if you’ll one day need help saving your life.” Sakari cast a glance toward Queen as she grumbled. She hated confrontation of any sort, to be honest, but in this case, she had no issue with speaking up to defend the others regardless that Queen had been being rude every time she opened her mouth and words came out. A soft sigh escaped from Sakari as she gave her head a gentle shake to get rid of the flies that were buzzing around her ears. She really hated those pesky things.
