Endive never could set herself back on course after the incident. The memory of her lost son still shadowed the back of her mind, bitter and malignant as foxglove. Nothing in her pack feels the same under that pall, the faces she once knew as familiar now cold and strange. She still works, still survives, but her sense of purpose gutters. A wolf can still find her among the Hearthkeepers, if they look, but words that she spares are few and far between. Endive quietly continues to carry out her duties in the background, indifferent to the triumphs and tragedies unfolding around her.
