The time before the split harbored its share of unpleasant memories for Sulwen, but they remain distant and clouded, obscured by the haze of another lifetime. She was only truly born the night she spilled her daughter’s blood and committed her soul to the spirits. A thick miasma of regret does hang over that moment, but it is difficult for her to interpret – does she regret the deed itself, or only that the ritual was left incomplete? Maybe if she had been more worthy of the spirits’ blessings, there would be two bodies feeding the oak’s roots, and no wayward daughter left to hold her failures in living memory.
